Marvel Snap featured location — best decks for Altar of Death
Each Tuesday Marvel SnapA new location will be featured. While a location is in the spotlight, it’ll have a higher chance of showing up, basically meaning that Second Dinner’s popular card battler has a different meta on a weekly basis. That location right now is Altar of Death.
Marvel Snap’s featured location for the week of Jan. 10
Altar of death is a dual-edged sword. When you play a card there, it’ll get destroyed, but you’ll gain two energy on the next turn.
This is because cards that are dependent on the destruction or a combination of cards like Death have an advantage. Nova can be played last, giving you additional power for every card.
Sunspot and Shehulk are two cards that can help you gain energy. You can also safely transfer cards to Altar of Death and not destroy them. Vision or Nightcrawler both make good options for keeping decks flexible. If you prefer, It is really want to control the field, you can use Armor to straight-up nullify the location’s effects entirely.
The Best Marvel Snap-Down Deck for Altar of Death
Although Altar of Death is a new area, many players still have questions about how it works. However, Polygon has been playing around with various options to find the best ones. Pete Volk, Curation Editor at Polygon has had success reporting on this deck.
- Yellowjacket (0/2)
- Deadpool (1/1)
- Squirrel Girl (1/1)
- Yondu (1/2)
- Bucky Barnes (1/2)
- Carnage (2/2)
- Wave (3/3)
- Deathlok (3/5)
- Spider-Man (4/3)
- Professor X (5/3)
- Magneto (6/12).
- The Day of Death
It is important to eliminate cards quickly. By using the energy gained, you can play Professor X earlier. This will lock down a position and force your opponent to surrender cards at Altar Of Death. These cards can reduce the death cost. Plus, it’s in your benefit to destroy both Bucky Barnes (who becomes the far more powerful Winter Soldier upon destruction) and Deadpool (who pops back in your hand with twice the power every time he’s destroyed).
Altar of Death: The Best Marvel Snap energy/deny cards
Meanwhile, I’ve been taking the opposite tack with a deck contingent on playing as few cards as possible:
- Wasp (0/1)
- Yellowjacket (0/2)
- Sunspot (1/1)
- Okoye (2/2)
- (2) Armor
- Storm (3/2)
- Sandman (1/2)
- Spider-Man (4/3)
- Klaw (5/4)
- Spider-Woman (5/7)
- She-Hulk (6/10)
- The Infinaut (6/20).
This is how it works: play Sunspot as early as possible, and then use the Altar of Death 0-cost cards to get energy. Sunspot will be powered up by this energy. The bonus energy can be used to play She’Hulk earlier. She-Hulk will cost less each time you use the remaining energy. Infinaut can be used to end the match if you defeat your opponent using Spider-Man and Sandman.
What about Armor? Oh, she’s just there to ruin the days of people who use Pete’s strategy.
