Mario Strikers: Battle League shows goofy sides of beloved characters

Mario Strikers: Battle LeagueIt’s like an endless party full of hilarious and surprising character moments. Whether it’s Wario butt-slamming a soccer ball so hard it explodes out toward the goal or a group of five Toads celebrating a goal with an airplane run, the soccer game manages to pack a surprising amount of personality between the whistles. Polygon gathered the most hilarious reactions and taunts from the characters of the game after fans posted their favourite moments online.

Mario Strikers: Battle LeagueMario Strikers is the next instalment of Mario Soccer. It features players battling it out over short matches of approximately four minutes each. Next Level Games, Nintendo EPD and other developers have created 10 character profiles. The characters react to each match’s start, goals scored and lost. They also have their own animations for when they do a Hyper Strike. This is an extremely fast shot at goal.

Peach being petty

Peach’s appearance in Mario Strikers ChargedThis would make it difficult for her to continue. The original version of her temper tantrum was a complete disaster. Now, we see she’s done a little bit of anger management and won’t let a goal or two get to her. Instead she gives herself some time to vent and cheers up after losing.

Wario strikes

Wario’s Hyper Strike is certainly intense. Wario uses his enormous power and realistic fart physics in this Hyper Strike to propel the soccer ball at almost unstoppable speed. We’d expect nothing less from the king himself.

Wario eats a whole head garlic

Do you want two Wario moments in one? That’s amazing! It’s not possible, because Wario is our favorite at Polygon. However, I believe the mere smell of him eating a whole head of garlic and the scent of his mouth would win the match.

Toads supporting Toads

The little guys must stick together. In Toad’s goal animation, he runs across the field doing an airplane run (or a Naruto run, depending on your sensibilities) along with five other Toads. Mario has been playful and joyful, but this is a moment that I believe five Toads can share together.

Waluigi’s contorted legs

Waluigi can walk for hours on his legs and puts them to good work in Battle League. He dances for the audience in his award-winning animation. He twirls and contorts into what looks like a bone-breaking posture that’s even more dramatic with his stick legs. He’s got class, so he tops it all off with a rose in mouth.

Donkey Kong gets goofy

Many fans commented online about how amazing it was Donkey Kong looks in this game, but it doesn’t stop there. A banana-loving primate also performs a dance for camera. When celebrating, he’ll treat the audience to the best shoulder wiggle you’ve ever seen.
