Mario Strikers: Battle League Features Put On Display In New Overview Trailer
For fans looking for new spin-offs of their favorite cult-classic characters, the Switch is a successful era. Just last year, we got New Pokémon Snap, a sequel to one of Pokémon’s most beloved spin-offs more than two decades after the fact. Now, 2022 brings us Mario Strikers: Battle League. Mario Strikers Battle League was announced in February at the Nintendo Direct. This is the first installment in Nintendo’s arcade-style soccer franchise since Mario Strikers charged on Wii in 2007. Nintendo provided some information about Battle League, but today Nintendo pulled the curtains back with a brand new trailer.
Like all Mario-centric games of sports, you can control a number of Nintendo favorite characters in an altered version of one our most beloved pastimes. The Mushroom Kingdom may have a few variations on tennis and golf, but wait until Mario shows you his version of soccer. This is so extreme, Nintendo has decided not to call it soccer. Instead the game’s sport is known as strike. Mario Strikers: Battle League allows players to play online or locally with as many as eight other players. The goal of a match is to score as many goals as possible. But, this is easier said than done, thanks to a modified but admittedly very loose ruleset.
You can use Team Tackle to help your teammate go a long way quickly… or take down opponents. You can also score 2 points by picking up a Stirke Orb. You can do whatever you want during the match, but there are no fouls. Every piece of gear has stat-enhancing perks. These perks can vary from character to character, such as faster speeds, greater shooting or stronger resistance to incoming tackles. A Striker Style can be created for every character.

You can play single matches, however, it is possible to do so. Battle League’s Strikers Club mode has been around for a while and its longevity is due to that. You can create or join up to 20 players and then play against other online clubs. Every match will earn you points that can be used to climb up the ranks each season. Owners of clubs can personalize the uniforms for their team and earn tokens. These tokens can then be used to customise their home stadium.
Mario Strikers Battle League will be available on Switch starting June 10. We have reviews for Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Golf Super Rush and Nintendo Switch Sports.
