Malice, Malevolence, and Malignancy: A Closer Look at Diablo IV’s Season of the Malignant
Blizzard’s Diablo IVSince the beginning of the year, Sanctuary has become a gaming phenomenon. Players from consoles and PCs have been fighting against the demonic Lilith to help save, or, at least, improve, the residents of Sanctuary. Whether they’re raising armies of the dead as a Necromancer, smashing enemies as the Druid’s werebear, or using one of the game’s other three classes to beat back Lilith’s forces, players around the world have all done their part to defeat evil. The release of Diablo IV’s first Season nigh, it’s time to take a closer look at how it will be changing and what players can expect when they hop back into the game on July 20.

First season, titled Season of the Malignant. You can also find out more about the following: Diablo IV is the beginning of the game’s continued live service updates. Season of the Malignant’s theme is a festering corrupt spreading through Sanctuary. It will directly tie into the content that has been added, such as all new abilities to be earned by completing the Malignant Hearts.
The Seasons were a great success. Diablo IIIBlizzard had a great opportunity to explore and improve the game. Diablo IVWith new mechanics and theme, players will also have the chance to begin fresh and try out new characters. “New players will be able to jump into Seasonal Realms and play through the main campaign as they learn the basics and then go straight into the Season content and new systems introduced. They will also be able to progress along parts of the Season Journey and Battle Pass as they play,” said Joe Shely, Game Director on Diablo IV.
“Hardcore players will be able to create characters and experiment with new builds or classes but with a new twist with all of the seasonal updates. Seasons add an entirely new way to customize characters and build up their power as they take on end game challenges.”
Seasons, like previous Diablo titles, gives players the chance to begin the journey on an equal playing field. This fresh start allows players to explore new content using their favorite classes, test out builds they’ve been interested in, or experience the season mechanics.

The mechanics mentioned above are they? In Season of the Malignant, players will be introduced to a new threat through a questline that picks up in the wake of the events of the main campaign. Cormund, a brand new character will accompany you as you embark on an adventure to uncover the mystery of a malignant corruption that is spreading throughout Sanctuary.
The story begins with the Malignant destroying monsters, and the world around them. Malignant Tunnels are a type of new dungeon that is filled with Malignant Monsters and areas completely overrun by the malignant. These shorter dungeons are a great way to focus on farming for Malignant Hearts, and you can tap into the new power of these hearts.
“The Malignant is a form of corruption that infects the existing monsters within Sanctuary. You will notice that the monsters will have multiple levels of malignant infection that you will be able to visibly identify from the level of disgusting masses and tentacles on them,” said Shely. “When you take down corrupted elite monsters and attempt to capture their Malignant Hearts, they will be reborn as fully corrupted monstrosities even more powerful, and you must take them down before you can cage their hearts and use them to boost your own power.”
This Malignant Hearts is a great way to give even more power and uniqueness to your characters. They have the same strength as Legendary Aspects. There will be four distinct types of malignant hearts: Vicious is an offensive form of power. Brutal is a defensive type. Devious is a utility power. And Wrathful is essentially’superpower. You will earn rings and necklaces throughout the year that contain sockets for Malignant Hearts. The new power will only work when you have inserted them into the sockets.

The Season of the Malignant offers players a lot of rewards, including the chance to experience new mechanics and content. Season Journey Diablo IVIt will work in a similar way to the previous versions. Diablo IIIThe multi-chapter system rewards players for completing each chapter. The player does not have to achieve all the objectives in order to end a chapter. They can choose to focus their efforts on those they find most interesting. The Season Journey will offer a wide range of rewards, such as existing Legendary Aspects and brand new ones. You will also be able to earn what we call ‘Favor’ from the Season Journey which can be used to progress through the Battle Pass where you can earn even more rewards.
