Logan director may take on Swamp Thing movie for James Gunn’s new DCU

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, and Peter Safran, CEO of DC Studios announced Tuesday their plans for the DC Movie slate. There are new Batman and Superman titles among many others.

One of the five films announced is an adaptation of Swamp Thing. Also, the Swamp Thing James Mangold is being reportedly considered for the role of director.

Mangold is most famous for his critically-acclaimed movie, Superman. LoganHe was also the director of the less-known The Wolverine This movie is a rare super hero film with a local conflict rather than a global one, as well as featuring an amazing fight scene on a train. He’s a veteran director who has taken on many different kinds of projects to critical and commercial success, including the excellent Sylvester Stallone drama Cop LandThe renowned psychological drama Interrupted GirlA comedy for friends Knight and DayThe Oscar nominated Ford v Ferrari. Mangold will also be directing the next Indiana Jones and Dial of Destiny.

Swamp Thing originated in 1971’s House of Secrets #92, and it has appeared in two movies, including 1982’s Swamp Thing Wes Craven. Also titled: A brief-lived television series on DC Universe’s streaming platform. Swamp ThingThe show was cancelled shortly after its premiere and ran for only 10 episodes. This character was also featured in the latest season of Harley Quinn.

Swamp Thing is often a tragic hero; my colleague Susana Polo described the character as “essentially the personification of The Will of All Plants who accidentally absorbed the memories of a dead scientist.” Swamp Thing is basically a swamp monster whose main goal is to protect its swampy home, and the environment more generally. Alan Moore’s run with the character in the late 1980s is particularly well-received, if you’re interested in checking it out before the movie. Mangold is a veteran of almost all genres, and Swamp Thing stories have a more horror-oriented tone.
