“The world’s first vending machine dispensed ________.”

The truth is holy water…! Or is it live cats…? Or moldy cheese?*

Writing and research are key aspects of writing. FibbageThe goal of the game has been to uncover facts as bizarre, or even more so, than any jokes our players make. This way the truth can be mixed in with whatever wild idea an amusing party might come up with.

One of the most influential editorial directions has been created by this direction. Jackbox Games’ most iconic trivia/comedy games. It’s so popular, in fact, fans are constantly asking for a new version with almost every Partie Pack. We love listening to our fans.

It was now time to start writing Fibbage 4. It’s time to discover more hilarious facts. Now the question is: How can we find even more amazing true stories, strange historical events, and trivial bits and pieces of knowledge?

You can watch some of these videos. Fibbage live streams, you will find that one of the most common words uttered after the truth reveal is “Really?” So how about a question type where we could answer, “Yeah! Really! … and here’s the video evidence!”

If seeing is believing, then showing our players the truth in the reveal could pack the punch we’re looking for in Fibbage 4. Thus, two new question types were planned: Cookie’s VHS Vault and Fibbage Fan Facts.

And when I say planned, I mean we started with the barest bones of an idea: “How about a video question?” Then they needed to be tested to see if they would work and, more importantly, would be fun to play. Our paper tests are becoming more digital. This is due to the new tech available to us, and Jackbox team members who step up and build electronic tools to better demonstrate what a game looks like “on its feet.”

If you are interested in the FibbageIf the team was going to test video questions they had to first watch some bizarre films and then edit clips to make playtests. I, for one, spent weeks going through public domain horror movies, old educational films and nearly forgotten sci-fi “masterpieces.”

TV shot

We wanted to collect the strangest bits of film trivia that we could find. “The villain of this 1950’s eco-thriller turns out to be Blank,” “This educational film teaches recycling tips by comparing our planet to Blank,” etc.

What we really wanted was “the reveal.” Something where we could ask a FibbageThe audience could answer the question in style. Clips were needed where someone opened a door and showed a giant sentient cactus, or when they stepped out from a rocketship looking like a tinfoil gladiator.

You usually learn something you didn’t expect from playtests and after a few practice games, we found that players also really enjoyed guessing the titles of movies. Which words best describe the images that they have just seen?

Trivia

Cookie’s VHS Vault uses public domain films, movies, shorts, etc. Fibbage Fan Facts is another video type. It features videos sent in by our users. JackboxPlayers themselves.

Play Fibbage long enough, and you’ll see many of these facts are about people who do strange things or have odd occurrences happen to them. This was our goal: to get in touch with these individuals and hear their stories.

Our prediction was correct. The competition received hundreds of entries. From these, we were able select the best and most entertaining to show our appreciation. FibbageAnswer clips featuring the players. They delivered the jaw-dropping revelations as in the amazing films.

To find these content, we had to do a lot more research. Fibbage Questions, however, once they were gathered, it was still necessary to bring them in the game.

The introduction of video questions to our party games was something that game designers and engineers created. Thanks to their hard work, you’ll get to see the movie clips on your big screen, answer the question on your phone and then move to the edge of your seat to watch the reveal play out in front of your entire party.

In the end, we’re all very proud to put something totally new into this Jackbox Party Pack Yet, it still delivers the shock-inducing sensation FibbageTrue facts. Only now, there may be a couple times where the “Really?” is replaced with gasps and laughter.

*The answer is holy water.
