Kingdom Hearts 4 Star Wars World teased in debut trailer

Kingdom Hearts 4’s official announcement on Sunday was relatively light on details. It is known that Sora will return with Donald, Goofy and a grownup Sora for an adventure that will kick off a new story line. We also know Sora will be fighting the Heartless in Quadratum. At least one semi-new character will appear, Strelizia.

Ah, and Sora could finally go to another galaxy, according to the first trailer. Kingdom Hearts 4.

Much of the trailer was for Kingdom Hearts 4 is set in the Tokyo-like Quadratum, there’s a brief dreamlike sequence set in a forest. This forest looks teeming redwoods. It’s reminiscent of Endor’s forest moon. Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi. Although a lush redwood forest may not suffice, Star Wars fans were able to see one additional detail. It was the footprint of an AT-ST.

It’s barely noticeable among the rocks and stream cutting through the forest floor, but the object in the upper right of that still frame sure does look like an Imperial AT-ST (aka chicken walker) foot. That’s all the Kingdom Hearts fanbase, and equally obsessive Star Wars fans, needed to fire up the speculation hyper drive.

The Star Wars Franchise has been in the hands of Disney since 2012, when Lucasfilm was acquired by the company for $4 billion. Sora, Donald, and Goofy would be well within their rights to hang out with Wookiees, Ewoks, and droids on Endor’s forest moon, or any other Star Wars planet.

Kingdom Hearts has been largely set in traditional Disney and Pixar settings. But Tetsuya Namura, the series director, has resisted exploring both Star Wars’ and Disney-owned Marvel. Maybe the lure of a lightsaber keysblade is too tempting for Nomura.
