Kids on Bikes’ second edition adds more ’80s adventure RPG action

Kids on BikesTabletop roleplaying games that pay homage to the 1980s adventures films and come-of-age stories. A second edition of the game is on the way, and it’s already been crowdfunded on Kickstarter.

Children on bikesCasts players in the role of small-town kids. It is intended to create stories that are similar to the one in Stranger ThingsOr Paper Girls. Inspiration from movies such as The Goonies Super 8, Children on bikesThis is all about facing huge odds with only your friends, some ingenuity and a reliable, humble mode of transport.

The second edition won’t be a replacement for the first edition. As the Kickstarter explains, “this new edition simply means that we’ve made some major improvements and rules clarifications that will enhance your gameplay and work perfectly with any 1st edition books that you already own.”

New additions include the ability for players to scale violence and its stakes, an expanded gamemaster section for more adventure inspiration, and more to do with the “bikes” part of the formula. Doug Levandowski and Jonathan Gilmour, co-creators of the game, are back. Hunters Entertainment will continue to produce the game. It is expected that it will ship in July 2023. Renegade Game Studios and Hunters Entertainment are also returning.
