Kao the Kangaroo returns with a modern reboot of the Dreamcast platformer

Born during the age of platformers based on animals and continued in the age of remakes. Kao the KangarooIt is back.

Although the Kao series began on Dreamcast over 20 years ago, it never received the same amount of attention in the U.S. like franchises like Spyro, Bubsy and Bubsy. A press release for this new game claims that 700,000 copies were sold worldwide in its original run.

With the new game — again called Kao the Kangaroo — Polish development studio Tate Multimedia says it’s not making a sequel, but “a complete reboot,” according to head of studio Kaja Borowko. A trailer shows beach and snow environments set to Junior Senior’s “Move Your Feet”, with enemy crabs, platforming over hot lava, magical boxing gloves, and a heavy dose of hit-pause.

Kao the KangarooIt will soon be released on Steam and Switch as well as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 (PS4), Xbox One (Xbox One) and Xbox Series X.
