Jujutsu Kaisen’s Gojo and Geto broke up in the last episode, which sucks

Jujutsu Kaisen’In the second season, a hot dad is paired with a giant worm. But it’s also about how he’s hired to assassinate a teenager, who happens to be the vessel of an immortal being, and how that leads to one of the most tragic friend breakups. Which has finally happened: As of Thursday, Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto are no longer friends, and the show’s entire world is worse because of it.

[Editor’s note: This post discusses details of season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen.]

I’ll take it slow for a second.

Jujutsu KaisenThe first part of season two was completed on Thursday. Gege Akutami, the creator of the popular manga with the same title, inspired the series. Usually the TV series is about Yuji Itadori’s class and the fight to defend the world against demonic spirits known as cursed spirit. In the second series, Yuji Itadori and his class at Jujutsu High take a detour from their main storyline to go backwards in time.

Gojo, his best friend from high school Suguru Geto and both attend Jujutsu High. Their instructor tasks them with protecting a young woman known as the “Star Plasma vessel,” whose death could endanger humanity. This task appears to be a simple one, until a man called Toji Fushiguro, the dad with a giant worm, surprises them and kills them. Gojo and Geto both escape the encounter with their lives, but are left traumatized. After these events, Geto suffers a quick downward spiral into despair, and starts to harbor negative feelings toward the regular humans who he likens to “monkeys.”

After another peer dies, Geto fully “jokerfies” and uses his powers to kill all the inhabitants of his home village. He is now embracing an ideology calling for the extermination all normal humans. Geto then asks Gojo if he would like to go with him on the crowded Shinjuku streets, but Gojo refuses. Gojo, after holding his hand up for a deadly attack on his friend, abandons him and lets the friend go into the crowd.

This is not just another betrayal of Gojo. SatoSugu has inspired numerous TikTok editings. fan artZines fan-made mangaThey are both committed to each other. Like any good ship, their dynamic has just enough details so that it feels plausible, but it’s not explicitly stated. The tragedy that accompanied their romance lends a romantic edge to their relationship. Geto continued to remember Gojo even when he was being tortured by his job. When asked if he prefers sweet or salty treats, he says, “Satoru might eat some, too, so… sweet, I guess?”

The fact that the arc has been animated gives fans more reasons to match them.

Of course, this isn’t the end of either of their stories. They just separated, but neither dies on the show. We won’t say how it ends, but those interested in the conclusion of their relationship should watch the movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0. It completes the story depicted in the second season, so it’s the perfect follow-up (or rewatch) to cap off this section of Jujutsu Kaisen.
