Japan’s Fighting Game Dev Roundtable Three Takes Place Monday

One of my favorite recently-created and thankfully recurring events is returning this month in the form of a third Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable. Fighters Generation has provided information that allows us to know the names of those who will be attending.

Some companies bring news updates or information about their ongoing projects or products. These roundtables provide something for fighting game fans to be excited about, whether it’s new DLC character plans, the first glimpse at trailers, or additional tournament support.

These are the confirmed guests to this roundtable:

Akira Nishitani – President/CEO of Arika
Osamu Matsumoto – Street Fighter V Producer from Capcom
Yasuyuki Oda – The King of Fighters XV Producer from SNK
Akira Katano – Guilty Gear Strive Director from Arc System Works
Daisuke Ishiwatari – Guilty Gear Creator/Producer from Arc System Works
Moriji Aoki – Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown Producer from Sega
Katsuhiro Harada – Tekken Producer from Bandai Namco

Considering the guests involved and the timeframe for known project timelines, we’re likely to get some character announcements for some games and even release dates for already announced fighters. King of Fighters XV launched in February and is expected to release its first DLC team in March. Team Garou with Garou Mark of Wolves characters Rock Howard (Garou Mark of Wolves), B. Jenet and Gato could have a release window shortly after the summit.

Guilty Gear Strive also has one character remaining on its roster for season 1. Arc System Work has released five characters for season one, so we are bound to find out who the fifth and last character is. 

As for the representatives from Arika, Capcom, Bandai Namco, and Sega, it’s unknown whether there’s anything to show. Their insight on development, especially in recent years, will be fascinating nonetheless. Sega, however is an unfamiliar face in this group, and Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown released last summer might have some further news. 

Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable takes place on March 21st at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (JST), which is at 1:01 a.m. Central. Game Informer HQ. The stream of the event will be available on both the Virtua Fighter Official YouTube Channel and Arc System Works Twitch channel.
