Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in talks for Freaky Friday sequel
Twenty years ago this summer, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan cracked open magic fortune cookies and body-swapped their way into millennial cinematic history in Disney’s 2003 remake of the 1976 film Freaky Friday. Beloved for Curtis and Lohan’s incredible knack for playing each other, it’s become the definitive version of the story, inspired surprising homages, and might even get a sequel.
News of the news came via an interview in The New York Times with Curtis Lohan and commemorating Freaky Friday’s milestone anniversary (the film was released Aug. 6, 2003). It is worthwhile to read the entire feature. Both men talk about their friendship that was formed on set, and how they kept in contact despite the fact they never worked together again.
The Times reported that Disney was developing a sequel, written by the up-and coming writer Elyse Hollender. Curtis Lohan are in negotiations to return. The plot details are scarce but it seems that Lohan in the modern day and Curtis as a contemporary would make for a fun time, no matter why. My only suggestion: maybe don’t have fortune cookies be the reason this time.
