The Renaissance had been driven by powerful merchant states, kingdoms or duchies that were rich enough to dominate the Mediterranean trade network. However, the Italian polities did not engage in foreign conflicts, and they continued to fight each other until Risorgimento created the new Kingdom.

European Royal Houses

European Royal House Depiction in game

The introduction of more than 30 European Maps has brought 9 minor civilisations into the game. They add a wealth of innovative units, technologies, abilities, and new technology to the game.

European Royal Houses represent larger entities with influence that transcends national borders and not individual people-groups. Age of Empires III: The definitive edition. Like Native American Settlements, Asian Holy Sites, and African Kingdoms, a Trading Post must be built on European Royal Houses’ Palaces to ally with them. Although Royal Houses offer a rare ability, more units and technology than minor civilizations on average, they are not available until the Exploration Age. These assets are quite impactful and the units often utilize novel mechanics – such as unit promotions, charged actions, (dis)mounting, and damage deflection – but tend to come at a higher cost than their counterparts.

Royal Houses

  • House of Bourbon
  • House of Wittelsbach
  • House of Oldenburg
  • House of Hanover
  • The House of Phanar
  • Jagiellon House
  • House of Vasa
  • House of Habsburg
  • House of Wettin
