Introducing Hokko Life, a Cozy, Creativity-Filled Life-Sim, Now Available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S

Hi everyone, I’m Robert, the solo developer behind Hokko Life – a creativity-filled life-sim game, now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S!

I thought I’d share a few words going through some of the different locations in Hokko, and the fun and relaxing activities you can get into during your time there.

First things first, let’s talk about the Meadow! Soon after arriving in town, you’ll renovate your own home in the Meadow and start your new life in Hokko. As more villagers move to town, you’ll be choosing where to build houses, customizing their appearance, and moving in (or evicting) residents; each Meadow layout is randomized, making your world truly personal. The Meadow’s not the only place you can build homes though; how about a nice beach-side residence, or even a room with a view at the top of the mountain? You can get it with Hokko The Best of Life, personalization and creativity is key, and you’re free to design your town your way!

Speaking of creativity, let’s talk about the Workshop! Here you’ll find all the tools you need to take your town to the next level. Take a seat at our Design Table to design any item you like, using all the available resources. You can combine different materials and paints to create furniture that you want. And if you don’t know where to start, you can take an existing design and rework it to your own taste; or download creations from other players and give them your own personal touch. Any design you create or download can be used as decoration in your community or at home to make it truly yours.

It’s not just furniture and items you can design though! Get some paint brushes to create new looks with your shoes, skirts and hats. It’s possible to create custom wall designs and floor patterns, make signs or hang art on the wall.

If you’re feeling like a change from all that decorating, there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy. Have a chat with Derris and he’ll get you started with fishing; unlock a huge amount of fish ready to be collected and added to your Collection Book. You can create different baits by going to the Meadow, Grove or Beach during various seasons to ensure you capture them all. 

Have you mastered all aspects of fishing? Turn the pages of the Collection Book and you’ll find a big long list of butterflies and other insects to be found around the world. They can be found in the Town Center or down in the woods.

While you’re in the Town Center, head into Moss’s General Store and check out what new furniture or items he has in stock; or sell what you don’t need to make some extra cash. Laurus’s Salon across the square is where you’ll be able to go for a make-over, and to find the latest fashions. You’ll also find Rosa’s Office in the Town Center; selling new roofs and walls to customize homes; as well as house-building services whenever you have a new resident to move in.

If you’re in the mood for a little day-trip, why not hop on a train and head over to the City Center; the online location for the game. Here you’ll find a bunch of stores including the Community Store, which showcases the winning community designs from the most recent Creator Challenge; the Department Store, which is where you can view other players’ creations and upload your own; and the Seasonal Store, which opens for a limited amount of time during real-world seasons to offer limited themed items for your town.

Do you feel exhausted from shopping? Get on a boat and go to Desert Island. This island is updated every day. You will be able to relax or hunt for artifacts from ancient times. Archaeologist Leonard’s excavation isn’t going so well, so help him out and donate anything you find to earn some fun rewards!

Once back on the mainland, it’s time to start winding down for the day, and what better way than pottering about on the Farm, watering your plants and tending to your crops. Maybe the pumpkins are already ready to be harvested or there are oranges still available from the tree. I’m sure Oma and the other residents will be more than delighted with anything you grow!

Take the train to Hokko, and you will be settled in your new place!

Your help is needed to transform this small village into a beautiful rural community. You can design, construct and decorate houses for your friends with a hammer or paint in hand.

Get creative!

You can spend your time in the workshop dusty and still have a lot of creativity!
Combine materials in any way that you like to make new furniture or items for your community. You can collect flowers and mix paints to make wallpapers, flooring or clothing.

You might design a collection of urban-industrial furniture or a set of brightly colored wallpapers. The workshop will allow you to completely design the town that all your villager friends would love.

There are many features

CRAFT: Go to the forest, abandoned mine or to mine for materials. Bring the items you find back into town, and you will be able to make your own materials.

DESIGN: Get your materials ready and set out to create your unique spin on each item. You can create your furniture by using the design table.

PAINT: Get out your paintbrushes and don’t forget to put on your overall. The village can even wear your designs on wallpaper and flooring. You can even have everyone wear your unique design!

BUILD: Hire the local builder for help and begin expanding your town. Put up buildings where you’d like, and prepare them for the new villager to come to your town.

DECORATE: Make your home unique and personal, pick designs and put furniture in places that will be loved by all.

FARMING: Make any parcel of land a farm. You can grow the finest vegetables, fruits and flowers.

FISH: Enjoy a calm morning fishing at Hokko’s various locations. You can also build your collection of fishing rods. You’ll have to be creative with your approach as fish are unique and each catch will present its own challenges when reeling in.

BUG HUNT: You’ll be chasing a variety of insects around Hokko. Be sure to keep an eye out for any hidden bugs in the bush.
