How to use a Special Skill in Monster Hunter Now

It is the first thing you need to do after completing the Prologue to enter the Chapter 1 story.

The earlier you learn how to unlock and use a Special Skill, the sooner you can progress through the narrative and expand your monster list — not to mention understanding how useful they can be to turn the tide in battle.

What is a special skill in Monster Hunter Now?

How to unlock the Special Skill? Monster Hunter Now, You must upgrade an armament to grade 2 by overgrading — the game’s terminology for increasing the strength of a piece of equipment; after reaching the max level within level 1, you can then overgrade to level 2, then level up within level 2 until you can overgrade to level 3, and so on.

To get started, visit your equipment screen (it’s in the lower left corner of the map, represented by your current weapon), then browse the weapons. Select the weapon you wish to improve, and you’ll see stats, the level and grade progress, and most importantly, the Special Skill (which always unlocks at grade 2).

Once you’re ready, click the “Level Up” button. Continue to upgrade the weapon up until grade 2. You will need resources to complete this process, including monster parts and Zenny.

Note that each weapon type will have a Special Skill unique to that weapon — so it’s worth experimenting with a variety of weapons (you’ll unlock more as you progress your Hunter Rank) to see which suits you best.

What is a Special Skills in Monster Hunter Now?

Equip the weapon you’ve unlocked once your Special Skill is enabled and then enter battle. You’ll now see a gauge appear in the lower half of the screen (above your health) which increases the more damage you dish out.

Once the gauge is full, tap it to activate the special skill. This is the Perfect Rush Combo for the Sword and Shield. It deals a number of powerful attacks.

Not only that, but for the duration of the Special Skill, you are invulnerable to damage, meaning you don’t have to worry about dodging attacks for a short period.

Something worth considering is that you don’t have to use a Special Skill right away. It is possible to bank the Special Skills for another enemy, if you don’t want to use them immediately. If you are preparing for a difficult battle, we recommend building up your gauge by fighting smaller monsters.

You can use this if your Paintball has a strong monster in it that needs some pre-preparation.
