How To Beat Margit The Fell Omen – Elden Ring Boss Guide
Margit The Fell Omen is the first mandatory boss you’ll encounter in Elden Ring. You’ll find his fog gate inside the Castleward Tunnel, which begins at the top of Stormhill, the wind-swept lands northeast of the starting area called Limgrave. This hammer-wielding, elderly steward poses a significant threat to slow melee players, particularly those at lower levels. If you’re still trying to figure out how to beat Margit The Fell Omen, we’ve got you covered. In this Elden Ring boss guide, we’ll show you how to find a unique item to make the fight much more effortless.
What is Margit’s Shackle?
I don’t recommend combating Margit until you’ve leveled up your primary weapon at least two times. Also, call Sorcerer Rodier before you enter the fight. His golden summoning sign lies on the right side of the floor before the fog gate. However, if you need a more considerable advantage, you’re going to have to unlock Margit’s Shackle, a reusable item you can trigger twice during the boss’ first phase.
Margit cannot also damage Sorceror Rogier and your Spirit Summons early in the duel. This will ensure that you take additional damage during the second boss fight.

How To Find Margit’s Shackle
You can buy Margit’s Shackle from an optional merchant named Patches for 5,000 Runes, but only after you fight and spare him inside Murkwater Cave. Head up the ravine starting at Agheel Lake’s northern boundary to find Murkwater Cave (beware, the beast guarding shallow waters)
Continue up the river to fight Bloody Finger Negius. He is an NPC invading the area and inflicts severe bleeding with his two daggers. Carefully dodge Nerijus’ attacks until Bloody Finger Hunter Yura joins the fray and offers assistance, or coat your greatsword in Fire Grease and unleash your Ash of War on him like I did. You will find Murkwater Cave’s entrance at the riverbank, marked with a torch, after you have defeated Nerijus.
After entering, you can rest at the Site of Lost Grace before moving on to the next room. The cave interior splits into two passages – take the right path, and you’ll find the gold-hued fog gate signifying the battle with Patches (I hesitate to call him a boss). Follow the misty path and find the treasure chest by the campfire. The fight will begin when Patches announces himself higher up. Do not use your spirit summons because you’ll need to stop attacking Patches halfway through.
Patches surrenders to God when he is about half his health. Once you have forgiven him, the friendly NPC will direct you to his new store. Run back to the Site of Lost Grace at the cave entrance, rest, and return to Patches’ chamber. The mischievous merchant will now sell you several valuable goods, but most importantly, Margit’s Shackle.

Time to D-D–D-Duel
After heading back to Castleward Tunnel, summon Sorcerer Rogier to your aid, traverse the mist, and begin the battle with Stormveil’s vexing steward. Keep your spirit summons safe for the next time. Margit often starts with two glowing daggers. You can dodge roll and throw them away. Be aware of his quick swings and focus on you if he is focusing on you. Margit briefly catches his breath after his flurry of attacks – this is the moment to activate Margit’s Shackle.
Margit will be stun by the holy light seal, which ground and leaves him vulnerable to a series of attacks. Stack enough damage during this lockdown, and you’ll stagger the boss, creating a window for an easy critical hit. Remember: you can use Margit’s Shackle twice before the second boss phase, so repeat the lockdown process once more.
Margit at 60% health will draw out his holy Kirkhammer to begin the second portion of the battle. As he starts speaking to you again, you’ll have time to summon your spirit companions. I’d recommend using the Lone Wolf Ashes or Godrick Soldier Ashes, which you can find in the jellyfish-filled cemetery west of Stormhill. You won’t have much time in between Margit’s four-combo attacks, so focus on dodging and healing until he slams his staff or hammer into the ground, then punish him. Repeat the process.
Upon victory, you’ll receive access to Stormveil Castle, the first legacy dungeon in Elden Ring, and a Talisman Pouch which enables you to equip an additional talisman.
