How I Successfully Combined Two Opposite Genres with Brok the InvestiGator, Out March First
Summary
- Six years of work come to fruition in a new genre of adventure I call “Punch & Click”
- Brok is inspired by early 90’s cartoons, but with deep characters and an emotional plot
In such a saturated indie market, how can you make your mark? Such is the question I asked myself when I left my day job eight years ago to go full “solo game dev”.

For me the answer was blending two genres I love but which are diametrically opposed: Point & Click adventure games like Sam & Max, and Beat ‘em up a la Streets of Rage. A real challenge! I have called this new genre “Punch & Click”.
It makes complete sense. Facing a door you can’t access? You can use your brain and try to figure out a way to unlock it…or you can simply smash it! No more frustration from non-logical puzzles that plague the Point & Click genre.

After a first “quick” release (the quirky adventure Demetrios), This huge project required six years of hard work. First release Try the InvestigatorA few months back, on PC was a huge success. It received 98% of the positive reviews.
Brok is visually inspired by early 90’s cartoons, filled with anthro animal characters, but with deep characters you will care about and an emotional plot. If you might think “TaleSpin” by looking at it, that’s no coincidence. I even got my script edited by Jymn Magon, who co-created popular licenses from the era such as “Ducktales” and “A Goofy Movie”!

This tale is darker. This universe is what I describe as “light cyberpunk”, taking place in a futuristic dystopia where the rich live inside a dome protected from the ambient pollution whereas the poor have to make ends meet outside of it.
Although the game received great reviews from players, I still listened to their feedback. The original version and the Prologue that was released during Summer Fest on Xbox were both improved upon. Particularly, I improved the combat and looked at what happened frame-by-frame to ensure tighter gameplay with predictable enemies.

Direct control is used for the console adventure sections (as opposed moving cursors), and the game was designed with controllers in my mind.
BrokThis is an epic adventure that can last 15-20 hours. You have replayability and multiple options to make a difference in the final outcome. It willYou want all eleven endings?
Plus I got the chance to work with talented voice actors such as Michael Kovach (“Hazbin Hotel”, “Lackadaisy”) and Bryan Olson (Max from Streets of Rage 4.For a total of 23,000 lines, he will be voicing the main characters.

There is already a huge fan group. Brok The InvestiGatorFanarts may be submitted to the game for inclusion in extras. After release I was surprised by the number of players who said they don’t usually play Point & Click games but who really enjoyed it, so I believe this is the perfect game to start with the genre. The game comes equipped with built-in tips (through advertisements to be collected in-game), so that you don’t get stuck forever. There are multiple solutions to puzzles and an easy-to-use interface.

The very first PUNCH & CLICK!
Brok is an adventure game that combines beat-’em-up and RPG elements. What kind of detective are you going to be in a world where animals rule the streets?
The futuristic light cyberpunk world is populated by animals that have taken the place of humans. The privileged live in a protected dome, while the rest struggle to survive.
Brok, who is also a private investigator and a boxer, now lives with Graff (the son of his wife). Although he could never elucidate her accident, recent events may shed some light on an even more tragic outcome… one that may be linked to their own existence.
Are they able to resist this world’s corruption and make their own decisions?
