Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay And Details Revealed At Sony State Of Play

Today’s PlayStation State of Play presentation focused solely on Avalanche Software and Portkey Games’ upcoming Harry Potter prequel game Hogwarts Legacy.

This game places players into the role of a character, and they go to Hogwarts school for wizarding. Legacy happens in the 1800s. Players are free to make their own legendary journey, without being bound by the Harry Potter films and books.

Today’s demo consisted of approximately 14 minutes of footage from an Xbox One, along with a few words by Avalanche Software developers. Watch the complete State of Play video above. For more information, please read our article.

You will create your new Hogwarts student. This wizarding adventure begins in year five. Then, choose your home (with the help of a sorting hat) and sign up for classes Harry Potter enthusiasts are likely to be familiar with. Demo shows Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts as well as Herbology and Potions. There are also some eccentric professors who teach the school’s students.

Hogwarts is full of mysteries such as dungeons, secret passageways and other hidden treasures that are scattered around the hallowed halls. Certain areas may require some cleverness and magical ability to uncover their secrets. Although Hogwarts Legacy is set over 100 years prior to the Potter books, there are still some interesting characters such as the Nearly-Headless Nick who can be seen roaming the halls.

Hogwarts will introduce players to new friends, many of whom will be their companions. Learn all about the backstories of these characters and take on adventures that will relate to your own lives. Sebastian Sallow, an Slytherin from a troubled past is one such student.

Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t just offer friendship and magic classes. According to rumors, there will be a rebellion by goblins that your student may end up being tied up. The footage shows plenty of spell-slinging against sinister witches and wizards, goblins, and other magical enemies.

Some spells highlighted in the presentation include stunning charms, shield charms, and more damaging incantations such as the fiery Incendio or gravity-inducing Descendo. Repairo is a powerful restorative spell that can help rebuild bridges or other structures. As the narrator noted, players can even use magic that school’s gifted professors do not understand.

You can upgrade your character’s abilities and talents by using the experience from various challenges. You can further customize and improve your character with gear you find on adventures, or by purchasing it using the hard-earned Sickles, Galleons and Knuts. Potions can also be used in combat to boost power or defense. The plants can be used as pets or to provide strength and numbers. If all else fails, the mandrake will stun them with a terrible shriek.

The Room of Requirements can be used to brew or cultivate as much as you like. The Room of Requirements is available to the student who’s starting in fifth year. It houses the necessary equipment for the above mentioned catching up, such as brewing stations or gardening tools. It’ll be the go-to spot to craft the mystical tools at your disposal.

The broom-riding sport allows you to glide around open spaces and take in the surrounding areas of Hogwarts Castle. You could travel to places like Hogsmede, which houses shops and vendors for gear or crafting materials, or visit unique wizarding hamlets that pepper the countryside and talk to the resident magical folk who reside there. For additional adventures and rewards, you can also rescue magical beasts.

Hogwarts: Legacy will be released this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. However, the State of Play didn’t give a release date.
