HBO Max’s ad-free subscription tier price is increasing

HBO announced on Thursday that it will raise the cost for its HBO Max subscription, which is ad free. The new price, beginning Thursday, is $15.99 plus taxes per month — up $1 from the original $14.99 price. It’s the first price increase for monthly subscribers.

The new price will be effective for HBO Max subscribers starting with the next billing cycle, which begins on or after February 11, HBO stated. An annual subscription costs $149.99, which is a 20% savings over the monthly price. HBO Max’s tier WithAds, which were introduced in 2021 are $9.99/month. Each tier has the same content. However, ad-free subscribers can download movies and TV shows, as well as stream 4K videos.

HBO said the $1 price increase will help the company “continue to invest in providing even more culture-defining programming and improving our customer experience for all users.”

HBO Max launched in the United States in May 2020 as WarnerMedia’s answer to the subscription streaming service boom. There are a lot of HBO original movies, shows, and HBO Max content. The backlog is also huge.
