HBO cancels Westworld after 4 seasons
WestworldOne season has passed since it had been planned. Just a few months following the conclusion of the fourth season, HBO cancelled the sci-fi mystery show. The original plan for the series, according to co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, was to tell the series’ entire story in five seasons.
WestworldThe series premiered on the BBC in 2016. It was a huge success, and quickly became popular with audiences thanks to its complex mysteries and blend of futuristic settings and Wild West elements. After leaving behind the Westworld section of the park’s android-filled amusement park, the series enjoyed a steady rise in popularity until season 2. However, it dropped sharply by season 3. Finally, the series’ fourth season, which ended in August, struggled even more to break through with audiences.
The decision was made amid a series of cutbacks at Warner Bros, the parent company to HBO. Discovery. As it revamps its brand, the company has cancelled a lot of movies and shows in recent months. On Thursday’s earnings call, the company revealed its quarter-end financial results. However, CEO David Zaslav increased his focus on franchise filmmaking. He also expressed hopes that new series will be added to the line.
