Hasbro fails to reboot Heroscape and shelves it indefinitely
Hasbro’s attempt to reboot HeroscapeThe beloved mini-wargame, ‘The Greatest Miniatures Wargame Ever Published’ was canceled on Wednesday night. The crowdfunding campaign hosted on the company’s own HasLab platform was unable to earn enough pre-orders to bring the project to life. According to Polygon’s statement, Rhode Island-based gaming firm said the project was being canceled indefinitely.
“As of the deadline for the HeroScape: Age of Annihilation – Vanguard Edition HasLab project, we are short of the goal needed to start production on this wonderful game,” Hasbro said. “As we said during the campaign if this project doesn’t meet its goal, we won’t be able to produce Age of Annihilation. This hasn’t changed. HeroScapeThe project as it stands will be canceled. At this point, there is no plan to revive the project. We will now refocus our efforts to the exciting games that we have in the pipeline, including the HeroQuest Game System expansion. Mage of the MirrorThe future, or the past The Yawning Portal D&D strategy board game.”
HasLab was launched in 2018 with a campaign for Jabba’s Sail Barge, a playset compatible with classic Kenner action figures as well as Hasbro’s own toys. This platform is also crucial for bringing back the board game. HeroQuestBack to life and several Transformers- and Marvel-themed toys. It isn’t the first HasLab campaign to fail, but this is the first HasLab board game failure.
Today’s news adds to a difficult week for Hasbro. Bank of America downgraded the stock of Hasbro, a publicly traded company. This was a rare event. Researchers at the financial institution claim that it’s pushing the The Gathering is Magic brand too hard, overprinting cards and “killing its golden goose.”
