Harvestella: 8 things to know before starting Square Enix farm sim

Harvestella is Square Enix’s new farm sim RPG. The game is heavily story-based, with the farming element taking a backseat while you’re off exploring the world and crawling through dungeons.

You’ll use a multitude of combat classes to beat up baddies, all while growing crops to cook delicious dishes (or to sell for profit). As you unravel the core mystery — learning where your character and companions come from, and what the deal is with the huge crystals by all the towns — you’ll need to figure out how to make a profitable farm.

You have a lot of things to do. Harvestella, It can appear daunting at the beginning. Here are some things we wish we had known before we started. Harvestella.

It is more about fighting and dialog than farming.

Instead of farming, you’ll spend most of your time in dungeons exploring and solving quests. For a while, farming won’t be the priority, especially not for money-making.

Side quests can make you easy cash

If you’re running short on money, go through town and pick up all the side quests you can. Many of the quests involve running to get from A to B. However, there are small combat sections so it is well worth it. Most quests will reward you Grilla (the game’s currency) and crop seeds for your time.

For delicious food, grilla and other culinary delights, equip your kitchen.

Make sure to renovate your kitchen when you get more Grilla. Your kitchen is a great investment as every town has a NPC that can buy your food for thousands of Grilla.

Dungeoning also requires the provision of food that can be used to replenish stamina, and satisfy hunger.

While food is delicious, drinks are better for your health.

Food is great for regaining stamina and hunger, but if you’re struggling to keep your health up in a boss fight, you need to consume drinks. Bringing all food but no drinks will result in your demise, as you can’t eat food once you’re too full. But, it is possible to continue drinking HP-restoring drink.

Seasons last for 30 days

HarvestellaThe 30-day season is actually more realistic than the 28 day seasons that you’ll find in most farm sims. This means you can plan your crops according to it. After 30 days, there’s one day of Quietus, where nobody can go outside and all your crops die. The next season begins after Quietus.

Be sure to set up your newly-acquired jobs and party guests

As you add new friends and combat jobs to your repertoire, it’s easy to just dash straight into the dungeon, but don’t forget to actually set up your party and job choices.

Some party members may be added automatically, but sometimes they aren’t, so make sure to double check. It is necessary to add job roles manually to your system.

It is not possible to clear all dungeons in one sitting.

You won’t have the time or energy to complete most dungeons in one day, so don’t feel like you have to. You can take it easy, and you’ll be able to return home once you have teleported points or unlock shortcuts. There’s no need to rush through dungeons, as there aren’t any time restrictions for completing the game’s story.

Before you go on a dungeon adventure, make sure that you have enough supplies

You will need Repair Kits, Return Bells as well as food and bombs before you can explore any new dungeon. You’ll need the Repair Kits to create shortcuts back to the entrance, while the Return Bells will get you back home quickly when the day ends, so those two are absolute must-haves.
