Harley Quinn’s Kite-Man gets his own HBO Max spinoff
This weekend’s SXSW panel featured the following: Harley QuinnPatrick Schumacher, co-creator of the series, announced the creation of a new spinoff centered on Kite Man, the lovable buffoon.
In 2019, the Harley Quinn animated series was launched. It follows Harley Quinn (KaleyCuoco), a hammer-swinging evil character who tries to find her way after she split with Joker. Kite Man (Matt Oberg) comes into play as a dumb but kinda sweet fellow villain who keeps running into Harley and her squad, eventually dating and getting engaged to Harley’s bestie, Poison Ivy (Lake Bell). And that’s it, until — spoilers! —In the finale of season 2, Ivy abandoned him to make way for Harley.
The spinoff will find Kite Man, fresh after the heartbreak, buying Noonan’s, the bar in the show that serves as a popular supervillain hangout.
“He tries to run the bar by himself but it doesn’t turn out so easy,” explained Schumacher. “We have Harley and Ivy appear in the first episode, but after that we have with different goons and villains appearing every episode, like Lex Luthor and Bane. It will almost be like Cheers for supervillains.”
For the main program, season three will premiere in this year’s fall. Dick Greyson — aka Nightwing — will make his first appearance in the show, as played by How we work in the Shadows’ Harvey Guillén. James Gunn will also be appearing as a guest star… as himself! The director will be making a film about Thomas Wayne. #Meta.
