Halo Infinite loses its beloved Pelican hijack glitch, angering fans

343 Industries has removed the fan-favorite glitch Halo InfiniteThe map finally allows players to drive their giant Pelican transportations freely. The fans are mad.

Shortly after release, late last year, fans discovered that they could hijack the Pelican — normally driven by one of the main story NPCs — and use it for their own devices. This bug did not require any mods and appeared more like an undiscovered feature that was accidentally left out of the game.

When players call in a vehicle at one of the game’s many forward operating bases, and the Pelican comes to drop it off, players can hoist themselves onto the Pelican’s roof, and hold the vehicle button to get inside. The Pelican will remain empty if they stop playing and start again. The Pelican will then function like any normal flying vehicle — aside from the turret — and players can drive it all over the map.

But, as of Halo Infinite’s most recent update, the glitch is gone. Reddit’s most recent update, which specifically addresses the issue of the glitch removal, has received over 10,000 votes and 700 comments as of the writing of this post.

“They patched it,” wrote Reddit user u/Sim0x24. “You can no longer drive the Pelican in the campaign for … whatever reason. My childhood dream was to drive vehicles like the Phantom and the Pelican. Halo CEPlease see the exceptions Reach And Halo 4, you’ll never pilot it. 343, I’m not even mad, just … why?”

Frustrated comments in the body of this post shared their frustration. And while there are some legitimate reasons 343 may have solved this issue — perhaps it’s an intended feature for a new content update, the glitch is tied to a far more serious bug, or it was an accident — it does hurt to see this go.

Since the beginning of Halo, lifelong fans have been obsessed with the Pelican. Personally, I can recall scouring magazine ahead of. Halo 3’s release, hoping an interview would mention the ability to pilot one. You can also find it here. Halo Infinite’s massive open world, this was the game where players who’ve waited years could finally live their true Pelican pilot life. It’s not over.

We hope the Pelican returns to Halo Infinite’s campaign someday, maybe with a functional turret and the ability to acquire it without glitching. Today, however, many fans feel very sad about the loss of their favorite, accidental toy.
