Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion Pinocchio for Netflix gets a teaser trailer

2022 is an important year Pinocchio retellings, apparently, but Guillermo del Toro’s take on the wooden boy is probably the most exciting one.

This movie has been del Toro’s passion project since the early 2000s. His fascination with stories such as Frankenstein and Pinocchio is something he has spoken about. And at long last, del Toro’s take on the wooden puppet turned real boy is hitting Netflix.

In this new teaser trailer, narrated by Ewan McGregor’s Sebastian J. Cricket, we finally see a glimpse of Pinocchio himself. Like other del Toro films, the Pinocchio-ficted version seems darker than Disney’s. McGregror and David Bradley join the new cast as Pinocchio, Gregory Mann (newcomer)Game of ThronesGeppetto) Tilda Swinton and Christoph Waltz are joined by Cate Blanchett and Finn Wolfhard. John Turturro is Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman complete the ensemble.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio hits Netflix this December and will be the third Pinocchio project coming out this year. First, a Russian version with a highly-praised dub was released in February. Disney Plus will release a live-action Disney remake with Tom Hanks in September.
