Guile Is Coming To Street Fighter 6
Last week’s Sony State of Play gave us a first look at gameplay for the highly anticipated Street Fighter 6. Today’s Summer Game Fest presentation opened with a second glimpse at the game, this time to add another fighter to the roster. Guile has joined the fight.
This news shouldn’t surprise anyone, since Guile is a long-standing fixture in the fighting game series. However, it’s always fun to see the way that Capcom is updating their most familiar warriors for a new outing, and the new trailer gave us a look at the well-coifed martial artist.
Guile’s ties to American culture have been a constant part of his life. The next installment continues that theme. Guile is seen fighting against an environment that is very similar to his earlier appearances. There’s a jet behind Guile and the structure of what appears to be an airplane carrier off in the distance. It is obvious that sailors and dock workers cheer for Guile’s victory.
Like in the first-look trailer we saw last week, Guile’s moves feature some of the same flashy painterly effects that we first saw with characters like Ryu and Chun-Li. These vibrant and colourful effects make a great contrast to the realistic-looking characters created by the RE engine. It is also the engine that creates games such as Devil May Cry 6 and Monster Hunter Rise.
Street Fighter 6 has been confirmed to be the next installment in the series’ timeline. It was set following the events of Street Fighter 3. As such, this new look at Guile reflects a slightly older look for the character, but don’t worry; he still takes time before his trailer concludes to whip out a comb and fix his perfectly maintained hair.
Street Fighter 6 is expected to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S (PS4), and Steam sometime around 2023. The full trailer is available below.
