Guerrilla Games Teases ‘Aloy’s Next Adventure’ In New Studio Statement

Just a few days away from the launch of Horizon Forbidden West’s Burning Shores DLC last week, Guerrilla Games has teased more adventures with Aloy.

The studio released a press release to inform the public that Angie Smets, studio director and executive producers will be leaving Guerrilla Studios to become the head of PlayStation Studios’ development strategy. It’s a move similar to the one the team’s former managing director, Hermen Hulst, made in 2019, transitioning from that director position to head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios.

As reported by, Guerrilla in that statement teases Horizon 3 or, at the very least, a new game set within Aloy’s world. PlayStation Lifestyle

In a statement, it reads: “We fully trust our new leaders to guide Guerrilla toward a prosperous future. We look forward to expanding Horizon’s world through Aloy’s exciting next adventure as well as our online project.”

As you can see, Guerrilla isn’t trying to hide it – the studio has plans for another adventure with Aloy. While rumors have pointed to “exciting new online projects” as a multiplayer game in the Horizon universe, the statement has made it clear that Aloy is not part of this online project.

As for the new composition of the studio, it now includes Joel Eschler as studio and production manager, Hella Schmidt, who is also studio director, and Jan-Bart van Beek, who is the art and studio director. Technical Director Michiel van der Lee will be “focusing on the future strategy and technology for the Decima engines.”

Smets’s words, which he leaves Guerrilla in “incredible 20 years”, are also included.

The past 20 years at Guerrilla were a dream come true. I am privileged to be able to say that I have had the opportunity of working with some the most intelligent and creative people in this industry. All the Guerrillas have taught me so much. I am grateful. We’ve accomplished so many things as a collective, and I feel incredibly proud about all of the titles we’ve released.

A special shoutout to Jan-Bart van Beek and Michiel van der Leeuw. I can’t believe it was only yesterday when we were trying to figure out how to create and release the first Killzone. It was a surprise to us that we would lead Guerrilla in the future. It’s impossible to express my gratitude to you. You have become brothers to me. You will be missed dearly.”
