Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie gets first photo, summer 2023 release date

Warner Bros. has announced at CinemaCon this week that BarbieThe Mattel-based live-action romantic comedy, “The Future”, will release in theatres on July 21, 2023. In conjunction with the announcement, Margot Robbie was revealed as the fashionista multihyphenate smiling behind her convertible in hot pink.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, and co-written with her partner Noah Baumbach, the film will star Robbie opposite Ryan Gosling, as Barbie’s long-time boyfriend Ken, as well as a supporting cast of performances by Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Hari Nef, and Will Ferrell.

Details regarding the film’s plot are still scant, and likely will not be revealed until the release of the first trailer for BarbieIn the near future. Numerous outlets point out that Barbie will open opposite Christopher Nolan’s upcoming biopic Oppenheimer Cillian Murphy (Robert Downey Jr.), Florence Pugh (Florence Pugh), and Emily Blunt star in the film. The pairing, whether intentional or not will make next summer memorable.
