Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition Launches November, Improvements Detailed
Rockstar recently announced that it’s bundling Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas in a single, remastered package called Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. The company didn’t divulge much info beyond confirming the previously rumored collection, but we now have a release date and a better idea of how the company is improving these genre-defining games.
Trilogy is a digital only title that launches on November 11, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S (PS4), Switch and PC via Rockstar Games Launcher. San Andreas’ improved version will be accessible standalone via Xbox Game Pass starting day 1. GTA III also joins PlayStation Now December 7. Keep that December date in mind, as it’s the same day that physical versions of The Trilogy go on sale for Xbox consoles, PS4, and Switch. They will be released on iOS and Android by early 2022.
Rockstar states that the controls for each game have been reworked to resemble GTA V’s gameplay. The controls for targeting, lock-on and aiming as well as the radio station and weapon wheels were improved. Mini-maps that are more accurate will enable players to create waypoints. The games are compatible with Switch’s gyroscope-aiming. You can also use the touchscreen for navigation and zoom/pan of the camera. The Trilogy supports Nvidia DLSS on PC and features achievements/trophies and new Accomplishments from the Rockstar Games Social Club.
Although the original look of the games is still present, the Unreal Engine has been used to enhance the visuals. These games feature upgraded vehicle and character models as well as a rebuilt lighting system and increased draw distance. They also have improved shadows and weather conditions. The surfaces, including interiors and buildings, have higher resolution textures. New foliage makes environments look lusher.
