God of War Ragnarok Midgard guide: All Odin’s Ravens, Nornir Chests

There’s nothing quite like home — even when home is a frozen-over hellhole. Yes, God of War Ragnarök Freya is sent by Kratos (Atreus), Mimir and Mimir back to Midgard and The Lake of Nine. This was the original place. Midgard has many things to offer, not unlike Vanaheim or Svartalfheim. There are a few side paths, but it all centers around one familiar: Tyr’s Temple.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to find all of the collectibles in Midgard, from each Nornir Chest down to every last one of Odin’s Ravens.

NotificationThis guide will help you navigate your first trip to Midgard. As you might expect, you’ll be back later in the game and be able to access previously inaccessible areas with new equipment. If you reach the end of one of the sections in this guide and still notice “undiscovered” stuff on your map, it simply means you can’t get that item yet. We’ll update this guide to include information about the second visit to Midgard by the time you get there.

Lake of Nine

The Lake of Nine is the mostly-frozen lake around Tyr’s Temple — the biggest open world section from God of War (2018). Although it may seem familiar, there are new mysteries to be solved and valuable items to find. The Lake of Nine is essentially all of Midgard’s smaller regions.

Draugr Hole

Follow the main quest to the King’s Grave area. When you leave and hop on your dog sled, head down toward Tyr’s Temple but hang a right.

Eventually you’ll come across a lip that you can jump over into a small cave. You will find a red box and the Draugr Hole when you get off your sled. To claim the treasure, defeat it.

Odin’s Raven

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

From the King’s Grave, head down to Tyr’s Temple in the middle of the lake. Turn left towards the massive metal gates once you have reached the bottom. (If you’ve already revealed it on the map, it’s right outside of the Raider Hideout.)

Get off the sled, and stand halfway up to your right at the door. You’ll see one of Odin’s Ravens hanging out by the hinges. You can destroy it.

Stolen Treasures and Artifacts

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

From the King’s Grave, sled down the ramp toward the Temple of Tyr. Be sure to look back at where you came from before you cross the bridge. You’ll spot some stairs.

Then, climb the staircase. At the top you’ll see a body holding onto an Artifact. Grab it.

Guiding Light Favor and Lore 1

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Head down to Tyr’s Temple and sled around to the right side. You’ll see a helmet sitting in the ice, smoking.

Investigate near the fire to pick up the Breastplate of Guiding Light armor piece, and read the lore on the helmet’s right wing to either start or progress the “Guiding Light” side quest and get the “Tyr’s Helmet” Lore entry.

Berserker Gravestones

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

You can steer your sled from the helmet of Tyr to the closest realm gate. (This has a large H for Helheim).

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

In front of the gate, lodged in the ice, you’ll find a Berserker’s Gravestone. This will activate Fraekni the Zealous. As with all Gravestones, we recommend you try it out once and then come back later if it’s too tough.

Guiding Light and Lore 2

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Sled around the right side of the Lake of Nine until you reach Sindri’s shop. On the opposite side of the wall behind Sindri, you’ll find another piece of Tyr’s statue.

Kratos prepares to read some Runes in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

You’ll see some runes written on what looks to be a gold band sticking in the snow. Read them to continue the “Guiding Light” quest and get the “Tyr’s Left Bracer” lore entry. Move on by grabbing the Gauntlets from Guiding Light.

Odin’s Raven 2

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Continue around Tyr’s Temple until you reach the southern side — near the frozen lightning bolt. Hug the temple and you’ll eventually come across a dark alcove in the ice.

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Place your sled into the interior and gaze to the left. You’ll see one of Odin’s Ravens dancing around on the ice. Because it’s such a dark area, the glowing green Raven is pretty easy to spot.

Guiding Light and Lore 3

Keep going east towards the Lake of Nine. It is almost directly next to the frozen lightning bolt.

You’ll see another piece of Tyr’s statue poking out of the snow. Dig up a rune for your amulet from the snow, and read the runes to continue the “Guiding Light” quest and get the “Tyr’s Spear” Lore entry.

Stolen Treasures and Artifacts

Continue hugging Tyr’s Temple and make your way under the bridge. On the north side, pass the lit up cave (which will lead to a raider camp) and tuck yourself into what we’ll call the “armpit” of the temple’s circular section.

You’ll see a cave covered in icicles, which might look like a piece of set dressing at first. You can destroy the ice to gain access inside for a stolen treasure.

On the side closest to the temple itself, you’ll see an elevated platform by the large gold circle. Grab one of these stolen treasures from a corpse by climbing up.

Hideout for Raiders

From the King’s Grave, ride down the slope toward Tyr’s Temple. When you get to the bottom, turn left and head toward the huge doors. In a cave next to the doors, you’ll find the Raider’s Hideout.

When the coast is clear, you’ll find the Nornir Chest on the second level. This is another brazier Chest, and you’ll need to find and light all three if you want the goodies inside.

Brazier 1

Kratos lights a Brazier in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

To the right of the Chest is the first Brazier. You can use your Hex arrows and Blades to destroy the mushrooms in the vicinity of the Brazier. To ignite the Brazier, grab one of the Pyro Bombs that are in the Pot.

Brazier 2

Kratos lights a Brazier in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Go to the pyro pot to grab another explosive. Look at the hole in wall as you face the Nornir Chest. To break the wall, throw the bomb at it. To lighten the brazier, grab another bomb.

Brazier 3

Kratos lights a Brazier in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Do a 180-degree turn by grabbing another pyrobomb from the pot. Turn left, and then walk in the opposite direction. You’ll see the brazier at the top of a stone pillar, much too far away to light with your Blades of Chaos. From the Brazier, make a Hex-sigil chain. You can also stack Hex arrows in order to increase the size of your Sigil. Throw the pyro bomb at the middle of the pillar and you’ll create a chain reaction, lighting the brazer. This is not an easy task and can take some practice.

Grab the Nornir Chest loot now that all of the brazers are lit.

Legendary Chest- Tartarus Rage heavy Runic Attack

When they’re all dead, proceed further into the area and you’ll find the Legendary Chest down some stairs. You can open the Cyclone of Chaos to receive a light runic attack from your Blades of Chaos.

Raider Fortress

The Raider Fort is just past Sindri’s camp. You can enter the Raider Fort by looking for the plume black smoke.

All enemies are dead! Look toward the huge rib bones supporting the structure. A lore scroll is found near the bones side of the encampment. Grab it to get the Viking’s Gift treasure map.

Raider Keep

The Raider Keep is south of Tyr’s Temple, embedded in a wall. Reach the Keep from the Ice Wall by walking up.

Kol Raider Camps

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

You only need to kill the chieftain and raiders. Take them down to progress the “Animal Instincts” side quest.

Shores Of Nine

The Shores of the Nine is the area just north of Tyr’s temple, and includes part of the area you adventured through as Atreus — alongside Sindri — earlier in the game. Kratos can reach it by hugging the northern ice wall, until he can lift the block too heavy to carry. You can still get in as Kratos.

Yggdrasil Rift 1

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Once you’ve entered the Shore of the Nine, you should notice some key landmarks from when you were here with Atreus and Sindri. Turn left towards the Broken Tyr and walk toward it. Instead of passing through the armor, turn right toward the realm gate.

Head back to where you crawled. Turn right and walk along the piece of Tyr’s statue. Read the rune to get the “Tyr’s Right Bracer” lore entry and progress the “Guiding Light” side quest. Interact with the glowing dirt near the runes to find the Waist Guard Of Guiding Light.

Stolen Treasures & Artifact

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

It is difficult to obtain this Artifact, because the placement of it can sometimes be misleading. Leave the Shores of the Nine through the giant block but don’t get back on your sled. Grab the right wall made of ice, and continue walking until you come to the Helheim realm portal.

Grab the Stolen Treasure and climb up to it. After landing, step forward and grab your Stolen Treasure.

The Oarsmen

Make your way to the Shores of Nine and walk up to the Tyr statue like you’re going to crawl under. Turn right, and then jump over to the Oarsmen statues. When you enter, you’ll get the “Sigrun’s Curse” favor. You’ll find a key to Sigrun’s treasure horde in this area.

Odin’s Raven

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

All enemies can be defeated if you walk forward. You can climb up the wall to defeat all enemies. After the coast clears, move up the chain to reach the next area.

Grab the key to Sigrun’s vault and then open the giant metal gate blocking the two halves of the area. Before you move forward, remove the sonic blockade with Atreus’ arrows to reveal the R bell.

You’ll see the Nornir Chest sitting right in front of you. It’s another of the bell Nornir Chests, and you’ll need to make sure all three are ringing simultaneously to open the chest.

Bell 1.

On the right of the area, you’ll see a wooden crane post that has a grapple section on it. You’ll find the Odin’s Raven on top of the wooden post. This thing can be hit more easily if you get close enough. If you are aiming well, it can also be hit from the Lore Tablet we discussed above.

Stolen Treasures & Artifact

Turn left from the tablet and you’ll find the Legendary Chest. Open it to get the Ivaldi’s Anvil heavy runic attack for your Leviathan Axe.

Grab Sigrun’s Vault key and leave the area.

A well of Urd

The Well of Urd is where you’ll meet the Norns, the Norse version of the Fates from Greek mytheme. There are two main areas to explore in this area: story and exploration. All of the various collectibles are in the exploration section, and there are no collectibles in the story section (which is good, because you won’t be able to revisit those areas).

To get to the Well of Urd, sled past Sindri’s shop and keep going north.

Nornir Chest

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Make your way past Sindri’s shop and into the Well of Urd, where you eventually find the Nornir Chest. Continue on the pass, until you reach a climbing wall.

The Lost Treasury

Once you have both of Sigrun’s Vault keys (which you can pick up from The Oarsmen and The Derelict Outpost areas), sled over to the Raider’s Keep, which is just south of Tyr’s Temple. While looking at the entrance, hang a right and go down the path to reach Sigrun’s Lost Treasury.

Brazier 1

Kratos lights a Brazier in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Your Blades of Chaos can be attached to this big wheel and spun right. Go up to the second level by climbing the wheel. Take the pot out and move on to the next floor. You will see the second brazier to your left. You’ll spot the first brazier. To light the brazier with your Blades of Chaos, create a string of Hex Sigils.

Once the brazier has been lit, you can now drop down.

Brazier 2

Kratos lights a Brazier in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

This time, turn the wheel to your left. Just to the right of where you can attach your Blades of Chaos to spin it back, you’ll see the second brazier. To lighten it, you can use another hexsigil chain.

Brazier 3

Kratos lights a Brazier in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Now it’s time to solve this puzzle. After lighting the second torch, climb up to the left side. Walk through the door on the opposite side of the wheel once you have landed. To stop the wheel from spinning, use your Blades of Chaos. The gold wheel is to the right. Jump down.

Pull the crank toward you and grab the handle to unlock the door. To freeze the left cog, use a hexsigil and an ax. Next, call your ax and freeze the right cog. Now that the cogs have been frozen, you can run ahead and get into the doorway. To open the door, turn around and press the lock.

Looking toward the now-open door, turn left and you’ll see the third and final brazier nuzzled in the corner. You can light it with hexsigil arrows and then open the Nornir Chest.

Legendary Chest – Sigil Punishment

Just after you have entered the room, take the next right. Against the wall you’ll find a lore tablet. Read it to get the “Love’s End” entry.

Lore 2: Lost Pages

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

The first Lore entry is in the area with the throne. You will need to climb up the chain. Turn around once you have reached the top and take a look at where it is. To crash to the floor, use your Blades of Chaos.

Once you have landed in the newly formed pit, move forward to pick up your lore scroll. This will get you another of the “Lost Pages.”

Sigrun’s Curse

Kratos completes the Sigrun’s Curse Favor in God of War Ragnarok

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

The Sigrun’s Curse quest ends here in The Lost Treasury, and you’ll only be able to finish it if you first get the keys from The Oarsmen and The Derelict Outpost. Once you enter the Treasury (check out the Nornir Chest section above if you need help with the puzzle), all you need to do is inspect the lore and look around the throne room to complete the quest and solve Sigrun’s mystery.

The Eternal Campfire

It is an area that only has one item, the Eternal Campfire. Leaving the King’s Grave, take a right and continue up the snowy ramp, rather than heading down toward Tyr’s Temple.

All across the Realms Favor

A map of Midgard and the Lake of Nine in God of War Ragnarok

On your journey to the Eternal Campfire, you’ll find a wall that you can grapple up. Continue walking forward, until you arrive at the campfire filled with rainbow smoke.

Image: SIE Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment via Polygon

Get up and go to the fire, then grab a book from the table. Mimir will share a tale about two lovers. This will start the “Across the Realms” quest. This Favor will send you — you guessed it — across the realms to find ingredients.

Lucky for us, Midgard is the location of the first ingredient. Walk back toward King’s Grave from the campfire, drop down, and look for the big orange heart painted on the wall — this symbol will be the indicator going forward that one of the lovers’ ingredients is nearby.

You will find your first ingredient by looking for the side quest symbol that appears in front the heart.
