Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion PC review: Lightning struck twice
Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion This is an unusual package. It’s the first DLC for a PC version of a hit tabletop dungeon-crawler, and it’s based on the stand-alone cardboard sequel of the same name. It’s also unconventional in that it’s less concerned with making this dungeon-crawling universe approachable — as was the purpose of last year’s fantastic digital adaptation — and more concerned with integrating a compelling sub-story within said adaptation. It has been successful in almost all aspects.
This product is ideal for use as a tabletop item. Jaws of the LionIt has been just as popular as the original game. This resolved all the problems plaguing this monstrosity. GloomhavenThe core experience eliminates the need for dozens upon dozens of map tiles or lengthy set-ups. It instead has the players working through a spiral-bound scenario guide with dungeons printed in its pages. This book’s story is shorter than the others. Gloomhaven’s, affording participants the opportunity to actually finish the campaign. It even contains tutorial chapters that help to get players started with the game. Finally, it’s a much cheaper and appealing package that can easily be found at mass market stores.
It all makes for an amazing boardgame experience. But it’s not these strengths that translate seamlessly to the digital adaptation. Instead, Jaws of the LionA completely new purpose is achieved.

What’s more, Flaming Fowl Studios provided a very effective tutorial in the base game that onboards new players quickly. The PC version of the game is also available. GloomhavenThe cost is approximately half that of a traditional board game.
All of these fixes Gloomhaven’s The original formula has been digitally adapted. Jaws of the LionNot to fix a crumbling foundation, but instead, add Continue reading. There is more of everything. You’ll find new characters and events as well as new items. There is also a completely new storyline. As an injection of new content, it’s actually quite powerful.
New characters are the most important asset. There are four total, but two of them — the Hatchet and Red Guard — are the very best Gloomhaven a variety of services that it has been able to offer. He is an aggressor who can inflict significant damage from both close and far. His tempo is interesting, as the core attack loop consists of throwing his lethal “favorite” ax and then retrieving it from his foes’ felled carcasses. It’s a pretty straightforward class in terms of strategy, but it’s full of momentous assaults and diverse offense.

The Red Guard is an exceptional option, as they’re able to adequately fulfill so many different niches while never becoming an ineffective jack-of-all-trades. Generally speaking, they’re a tank of sorts, able to consistently shield and buff their own defenses. However, the Red Guard has the ability to inflict heavy injury and provide some crowd control. These four classes are most adept at tackling danger as an individual wolf.
The other two classes are interesting in their own rights, even if they’re not quite as unique as their fellow party members. Demolitionist can destroy obstacles and inflict melee damage to foes. He has only nine cards and is susceptible to exhaustion. On the other side, the Voidwarden can be a flexible support class and provide numerous debuffs as well as curses for the opposite group. While she’s more eccentric than most, she’s still very stylish.
It’s intriguing how robust these new characters are. These characters have greater flexibility and reach than those in the original. Gloomhaven. They can blend in with base game options seamlessly, and they are able to work well in almost every party. They’re also a treat to wield in the core campaign storyline, as they’re adept at overcoming a myriad of challenges.
The DLC’s storyline itself is potent as well, functioning as a concise side campaign alongside the main narrative. It’s particularly alluring because it offers an additional vector of linked scenarios that you can engage with at your leisure. The quests focus on an evil plot you gradually uncover piece by piece. They take place in Gloomhaven’s central city. As you investigate the plot and try to stop it, the result has a much more investigative feel than the main storyline.

The ability to toggle back and forth between the old and new story is one of its strongest points. The ability to switch between them at will allows you to see the difference in the class or the party structure. There’s a great opportunity to experiment with the thrilling new characters or the ones you didn’t spend enough time with during your first trek through Gloomhaven’sDigital adaptation
