Getting Started on Overwatch 2: Tips from the Pros

Whether you’ve never played OverwatchPerhaps you have stopped doing it. Overwatch 2You can amaze. 35 heroes to understand, a redesign of the 6 vs 6 mode into 5 vs 5, new maps… The amount of content is impressive and the game, one of the most important figures in e-sports, is quite technical. We spoke to two players in order to aid newcomers as well as less-experienced players. Overwatch experts: Féfé, one of the main streamers of the game in France, and Nuja, a former professional player. We get their tips on getting started with the game.

Overwatch 2

You can find the following character types Overwatch 2There are three roles for tanks: Damage Heroes, Support Characters and Tanks. What role do you suggest starting in?

Féfé: I wouldn’t advise any particular role, but rather to try them all. Every role has their own unique characteristics, so you need to try them all to discover the style that works for you. This is especially important as it will allow you to understand how the others are feeling and what they’re doing.

Nuja:Tank is the best role I have ever played. It’s probably the most fun for those who have never played before. Especially since the damage heroes will ignore the Tanks and focus on the Support Heroes and other damage heroes, so you’ll be relatively safe. My girlfriend met D.Va during her first playthrough. She had an amazing time. Orisa has excellent damage resistance, which I can also recommend.

Are you able to suggest a character or role that would be great for the game?

Féfé:Winston would be the best person to explain the Tank’s role. He’s a character that doesn’t require aiming and you’ll be able to focus on your positioning and space control. He’s pretty easy to play, he’s got both a shield and enough mobility, he’s great at protecting his teammates… I would really say that he is the best character to learn the Tank role.

Nuja:As a beginner in the damage category I’d recommend Soldier 76. The game has a gameplay that is very similar to classic FPS games and a healing ability, making it easier for you to rely on other supports. In Support, I would say Moira, one key (or button) to do damage, the other to heal, it’s pretty simple and moreover she can escape from a tense situation quite easily.

Féfé: It’s true that it also allows us to have this vision of the Support character who can also do damage and not only heal. Ange or Lucio would be my choices. These characters are adaptable and can handle low-level tasks. You can quickly feel helpful with them. And to learn the role of Support, the most complete character is Ana, it’s not the easiest to play, but it’s the most complete and it also allows you to develop your ability to aim if you play Support before considering other roles.

Overwatch 2

Every role in the game has one common passive skill for its hero. This is important to a beginner.

Nuja: Support heroes now automatically regain life if they don’t get hit for a few seconds, which is nice when you’re just starting out: you just need to hide for a short while to be able to go back into battle with full health, no need to know the location of the healing packs on the different maps.

Féfé: The Support Heroes will be able to maintain their self-sufficiency even in difficult situations. They won’t feel like they are being taken advantage of by the Damage heroes. To experience this in game, it’s much more enjoyable than before. Tank liability was part of the new design for Tanks in the game. Tanks are more than protectors and shields. They pose a threat to your opponent’s moves.

How do you deal with such a wide variety of maps and game modes when you’re first starting out?

Nuja: It’s true that there are several different game modes, depending on the map, and that can be confusing at first. There’s convoy escort, point capture, the new Advanced mode. But I think the game knows how to guide you, whatever the mode, it’s all about attacking and defending and you always know where you have to go, it’s always clearly indicated on the screen. As with any other game, learning is important. For example, you will need to memorize the locations of each map’s healing packets.

Féfé: I believe that watching content is best for learning purposes, and not to just play. If you just play, you won’t know where to place yourself and you’ll repeat the same mistakes. You have to watch high level competitions, watch where players are positioned on the different maps, watch coaches’ streams or match analysis, because the question of positioning comes up a lot. You will learn a lot faster by doing these things than by playing hours.

Overwatch 2

What will the effects of changing to 5vs5 mode? Overwatch 2?

Nuja:It is faster, more intense, and more dynamic. Damage heroes no longer have slowing or stunning abilities, which can be nice when you’re just starting out, but there are also far fewer shields, so less protection, you have to know how to use the environment. In 5 vs 5., mistakes are extremely punitive. If a member of the team goes missing, it makes the team even weaker.

Féfé: Also, 5v5 allows for greater visibility. Because fewer players are using their spells or ultimate abilities, you can see exactly what is going on during the game. Also, you feel more powerful when you are the only one making an impact. Overwatch.

This is a game that requires communication. What is the best way to communicate with a novice?

Nuja:First OverwatchYou could use shortcuts already to communicate specific information, such as giving your friends the percentage of your ultimate abilities. Use In Overwatch 2A tagging system has been implemented. It’s often crucial to prioritize a particular target and it’s an easy way to do so without using a microphone. However, I recommend that new players use the microphone whenever possible. This is especially important for ranked games where communication is crucial. Communication is half of winning. Sombra for example. Before I attack an enemy, I notify my friends. It takes only a Winston or Tracer to take out the target, and it is an incredible advantage.

Féfé:Talking about your personal resources is the best way to communicate with teammates and let them know your capabilities. My ultimate ability can be used to win fights. Ana can also use it, so I can play Genji. This strengthens my damage. Communicating about the opponents’ resources, whether they have just used their ultimate ability or are ready to do so for example, can also be crucial.

Overwatch 2

Ultimate abilities are able to decide the outcome of fights. What advice do you have for them?

Nuja: At any time, you can see the charge level of your team members’ ultimate abilities by viewing the scoreboard and it is important to take this into consideration. The ultimate abilities may be able to counter those of your opponents, for example Lucio’s ability will help you fight Genji’s, Zenyatta’s ability will counter Soldier 76’s… By being aware of the level of your opponents’ ultimate abilities, you will be able to use yours in an optimal way.

Would you recommend ranked gaming to someone who is just starting?

Féfé: You shouldn’t focus on wins and losses. Instead of focusing on losing or winning, focus instead on what you can do better to improve your game and to grow as a person. It is also important to establish your winning conditions. You must also determine your winning conditions. For example, I might play Zenyatta in a Shield composition with ranged damage characters. My role beyond healing is to cause damage. If the opponent’s composition includes, say, a Tracer, a Sombra and a Winston, my role as Zenyatta will be to survive. Then I’ll be helping my team better than doing damage. It’s common to see players play their character the same way all the time, no matter what their team is made of and what their opponents are made of. It’s really important to determine your win condition.

Nuja: I would also say that the fact that you can freely change your hero to adapt to a given situation is part of the game’s concept, it’s what gives it its strategic aspect.

Féfé: It is important to not use only one of your strings. It is very rare for someone to use only one hero, even at the highest levels. A variety of heroes can make a role more exciting, such as three.
