Xbox Wins gamescom Green Studio of the Year Award Presented by UN’s Playing for the Planet

Phil Spencer received the Playing for the Planet award for gamescom Green Studio of the year. Playing for the Planet gave credit to Xbox for its efforts to work with developers and gamers to reduce energy emissions in the gaming industry. 

Earlier this year, we announced that Xbox is the first console to release dedicated energy and carbon emissions measurement tools designed for (and with) game creators, The Xbox Sustainability Toolkit. Also, we became the first console that offered Carbon Aware software and game updates. 

The Xbox Sustainability Toolkit is a resource for game creators who want to do something about it. It provides information, case studies, and practical steps that will empower them to save energy with minimal effort. In addition, Xbox console updates allow players to continue doing what they like, which is playing games, with a reduced impact on the environment.
