Game Infarcer: Valve Announces Steam Deck+

Valve’s Steam Deck+ portable console was just launched, and Valve now has a strong new addition to its line of portable computers: Steam Deck+.

Besides boasting a considerable power bump, the device’s most striking feature is the clamshell-style design that allows Steam Deck+ to be closed, similar to Nintendo’s line of DS handhelds. Top half features a 14 inch 4K touchscreen. In the lower half, you will find a trackpad as well as a keypad. This will make it easy for keyboard and mouse users to align their headshots accurately in CS. Don’t worry, console fans: Steam Deck+ features two USB ports for plugging in your gamepad of choice. 

Although it may seem larger, the Steam Deck+ is still a mobile-first console. The device was easy to transport in several bags and satchels. It also feels nice to place the hardware on our laps while sitting or lying in bed, but we are concerned with how hot the bottom becomes while playing high-spec games at max settings. Our editor suffered first-degree crotchburns when he was testing Cyberpunk2077 on the bus. 

The upgrade works just like the original Steam Deck and is fully functional. Apart from running Steam flawlessly, this upgrade also allows you to install Windows and other operating system. The Epic Games Store also runs fine for those who need to feel like they’re getting away with something. Microsoft Word was installed to our prototype. I wrote this article at nearby Starbucks. While playing triple A titles, as well as running other apps like Discord and Slack simultaneously, the battery lasts only 2.5 hours. Plugging in an HDMI cable (sold separately) allows players to plug and play on their TV, making Steam Deck+ a hybrid console of sorts. 

Steam Deck+ promises to revolutionize portable gaming. It’s safe to assume Nintendo is nervously biting its nails now that another challenger has entered the handheld gaming arena. Steam Deck+ will be launched by Valve this fall at a price yet to be revealed. The package includes an Artifact-themed satchel and a stand in the form of an orange folding tray table on wheels. Each Steam Deck+ includes Half-Life 3D pre-installed.
