Fuel the Music in Metal: Hellsinger

Hello everyone! The rhythm FPS. Metal: HellsingerS. It will also become available immediately with Game Pass.|S and will be available on day one with Game Pass. Before that happens and we let you all loose on Hell’s demonic hordes, we’d like to share what we think makes Metal: Hellsinger It was an intense experience that led to us getting where we are today.

Metal: HellsingerThe eight Hells are your destination as you begin an infernal path of revenge. You can perform most actions to the beat. This contributes to your “fury” multiplier. Your multiplier determines how intense your music is and what damage it does. At maximum fury, vocals are activated for the ultimate metal experience.

There are many ways to interact with beats. You can use the shotgun to kill demons at half time, and the dual pistols will dispatch them with quarter notes. You have the option to mix up your weapons and get even more options for how you play. Your symphony is not complete without dashing or reloading.

You are the music!

While the music itself beats at the heart of the game, and we feel privileged to have an incredible original OST performed by legendary metal artists, it’s you who powers the whole infernal machine.

Metal: Hellsinger You are the driver of the song and not the other direction. This is done to help you connect to the game, your performance and the music. All flows from demons banging the ground and your constant advancement. You are the embodiment of song. You are the song incarnate.

Keep the Beat Going

Playing the game ourselves, we’ve noticed something peculiar. Visit to studio kitchen shows developers putting in the coffee machine settings to an imagined beat. From my desk, I hear the clicking and typing of colleagues in rhythm to a beat that doesn’t exist.

The rhythm of the game kind of just … persists. As I walk around the day, I often find myself unconsciously repeating the beat or singing my favorite parts of the song. This kind of rhythmic and musical play inducing musical hypnosis is what we hope will happen to other people.

While we know the game is unusual in its own right, there was never a meeting where everyone sat down and thought, “How do we make this different from other games?” We took elements of games that we loved and combined them. With the idea of creating a game that is about a demon who fights her way to Heaven, shooters, rhythm music and metal music were all considered.

A few of the people in our group had previously made shooters, and many had heard a lot more metal. However, a rhythm-based game combined with all this was new. There was much exploration, and we just had to find what was working for us.

The shooter aspect was our main focus and we balanced it against what we thought would make for a rewarding, rhythmic game. We knew that in a game about timing and flow everything had to be precise and responsive. The player had to be able to recognize when they did well. The solution was to shout at the screen when the score multiplier is full. It’s a positive way.

It took a lot of work to get the feedback for the actions and the scoring structure right, and make the UI feel seamless into the experience.

Enjoy listening to metal albums

Every level, which is a piece of Hell in itself, has a different song. This reactive and layered soundtrack sets the scene. The level selection screen resembles a series of records, and in the deepest pit of Hell awaits the final showdown with the Red Judge, set to “No Tomorrow” performed by Serj Tankian from System of a Down. The result – we hope – is a game that feels like playing a metal album come to life.

Enjoy the game! Metal: HellsingerS, and day one for Xbox Game Pass.|S and day one with Xbox Game Pass.
