From Software’s Miyazaki Says Next Project In Final Stages, Elden Ring 2 Not Ruled Out

Hidetaka Mishazaki, director at Elden Ring and president of From Software gave information to 4Gamer.net about what the next project would be and left room for a possible sequel. The interview was translated by Google Translate, so we apologize for any mistakes.

4Gamer asked about the future From Software project and three other games in development when Sekiro was being developed. The public was unaware of two titles at that time. One ended up becoming the smash hit Elden Ring this year. We don’t seem to have to wait very long for information about the second. When asked whether that other game was still in development, Miyazaki responded, “Yes. It is currently in the final stages of development.

Although Miyazaki has not revealed the details of the game, industry rumours point to a revival of Armored Core, another From Software franchise. The studio would benefit from the high-tech plating and steel-plating of the mecha, rather than trading the armor steel of medieval knights. This would provide a welcome change after the series of Souls-centric magic and melee titles. It will also be interesting to see if the long-running robot series will take any design philosophies from its From Soft sister series. We will soon find out if the Armored Core rumors are true.

From Software has a growing staff, which makes Elden Ring’s scale and scope possible. Miyazaki claims that From Software now has more developers and different directors are working on multiple projects.

Due to the expansion of our human resources, it was possible to make a title that reflected Elden Ring’s scale. But, from now on we will likely leave the project in their hands. Actually, several titles are being directed by others, and we need to grow the number of them.

Elden Ring was also discussed in the interview. Miyazaki confirmed that updates would continue rolling out, however, he did not mention larger content updates such as DLC. He does however open the possibility of a sequel. 4Gamer stated that an Elden Ring 2 could sell well. However, From Software is shying away these days from sequels. Miyazaki replies, “It’s case-by-case.” Both taking over the numbering is a good thing and creating new works with new titles are also merits.
