Summary
- From dream to reality, a story of how a ‘Dad’ publishes a game on Xbox
- A little extra polish is a big help, even with a purple slimeball.
- If a child is bored, give him or her a new game!
“Dad, I can’t find many games I can play…”
“Ok darling, what sort of game would you like to play? Should I make you one?”
And that’s how it started. A little over a year ago, my daughter of five told me that many of her Xbox games were too challenging for her. After some curation, we managed to gather a neat little group of games – but the idea of creating one for her and kids like her had stuck…
A game developer I was, I have never been offered a position at a company that develops for Xbox. My first thought was, “Oh how prestige it would be to work on an Xbox title.” This is a lifetime dream. A few months into development of BouncyBoi in Puzzleland, there was quite a bit of interest shown – so I gave my demo a coat of polish and sent it away to [email protected]I submit. I crossed my fingers and toes.

One day I was busy working on the game, when my email notification came up. It came from [email protected]…
I felt my heart skip a beat. I told myself “Here is the rejection letter”.
I read the first sentence…
“ Thank you for submitting your game concept to [email protected]! We were happy to share our thoughts with you. BouncyBoi in Puzzle LandXbox has approved the release of this video. “
It was a moment that I will never forget.
Wire guidelines tell us to avoid excessive exclamation marks, so let’s just say: “six exclamation marks!” This was my first introduction to the [email protected]Team and this is just a tiny taste of what they did for me. “Time to level up”.

My goal was to create a game that is visually striking and polished. It took a lot of time to render the game and then post-process it in order for it to be worthy of its place on this console. As a solo developer, my goal is to create a video game that will be played on the console. All must be in order.
When I look back to the first prototype, I can’t even recognize the game. It has grown and evolved into something I am truly proud of – and something definitely worthy of being a console game.

You can only accomplish such an amazing feat by being on the shoulders giants.
Any and every question I had regarding the Xbox platform – the [email protected]My team was there for me. The Unity engine was used to create this game. Any time I had a question about Xbox, one of my team members was available.
The [email protected]Program has allowed me to realize my dream of creating and publishing a video game for my console. This was something I had considered impossible.
My daughter enjoyed playing through the game, and now she’s planning the next.).
