Former World Of Warcraft, League Of Legends Lead Greg Street Reveals New Studio And MMO Codenamed ‘Ghost’

Greg Street, former Lead Systems Designer on Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, as well as executive producer of Riot Games’ League of Legends MMO, still under development, have joined NetEase Games to form a studio named Fantastic Pixel Castle. This studio is developing a new AAA MMO codenamed Ghost, set in a new fantasy universe. Street has a team of founding members with decades of MMO experience, including World of Warcraft and League of Legends. They also have Fortnite, Overwatch and Valorant. 

The studio is hiring and says it embraces a “remote-first structure.” Currently, it is entirely remote. Fantastic Pixel Castle released Ghost concept artwork to coincide with today’s announcement. You can view each piece by scrolling through the gallery. 

Street, the lead of Street Studios, wrote in a recent press release, “We want to show our players that we are committed to transparency and open development.” MMOs may be one of the hardest games to create, but there are some advantages. As a remote studio we are able to work with the very best developers. And we will stay small in order to iterate quickly on our designs. Also, we will show our game often and early to the public to ensure that it is on the right path to incorporate feedback. NetEase Games, a strategic partnership that shares our vision and provides us with the resources and creative autonomy to succeed, is what makes this possible.

NetEase Games global investment and partnership president, NetEase Games says Fantastic Pixel Castle will bring some of NetEase’s top MMO talent to help develop this unique fantasy IP. He also noted that the studio had the company’s support to “make this vision a reality.” 

The studio heads of Fantastic Pixel Castle will be livestreaming a AMA at 2 p.m. ET to share information about their team and Ghost. On November 8 at 2 p.m. ET, the studio leaders will share more details about Ghost and their team.
