Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is reigniting the Three Houses fandom

Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct presentation started off with a big surprise for Fire Emblem fans. Three Hopes for Fire Emblem WarriorsIt was revealed that the game would feature the actors of Fire Emblem: 3 Houses. The trailer didn’t have a ton of plot details, and mostly focused on showing off the third-person action. With their powerful attacks, characters like Byleth, Claude and Edelgard take out thousands of enemy soldiers.

The gameplay may be different than the old top-down strategy, but it is still very similar. Three HousesFans are thrilled. Sure, it’s a genre change, but they’re just excited to return to a beloved universe and spend time with old friends.

Fire Emblem: Three Homes has four distinct story paths which are decided by protagonist Byleth’s choices. Byleth arrives at Garreg Mach Monastery to become a professor. They must then choose one of the three teaching houses. Byleth’s choice of Black Eagles, Blue Lions, or Golden Deer determines the rest of the story. Each student is unique, with their own stories and personalities. Growing global tensions are threatening Garreg Mach as Byleth instructs the students and uncovers their secret past.

Three houses has multiple endings for each character, some of which lead up to the character’s death. It’s a very finite game; players didn’t expect a sequel or a follow-up. Three HopesLooks like an alternate timeline and offers a way to see a different perspective on the same characters.

Many fans are eager to speculate on the possibilities of what else might be revealed. Many people wish that there was a “unity” route where the player, through Byleth, could unite the warring lords against a common enemy. Unfortunately, that doesn’t exist in Three Houses, and the player must inevitably face — and even kill — some of their old students and friends. Three Hopes on the other hand, suggests that there’s some kind of common cause bringing the Golden Deer, Black Eagles, and Blue Lions together.

Many are already wondering if this is a happy version of the tragic story that allows them to spend more time with different, likeable characters. It’s easy to see why an already fervent fandom is exploding with new enthusiasm over the title.

Three Hopes for Fire Emblem WarriorsIt will be available on Nintendo Switch starting June 24, 2022.
