Final Fantasy kart racer Chocobo GP comes to Nintendo Switch in March

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy-flavored take on the kart racer, Chocobo GPAccording to Tuesday’s announcement, a new game, titled, will arrive on Nintendo Switch March 10, 2022. Release of Chocobo GP will end a two-decade-long drought of racing as Final Fantasy’s famous bird species.

Chocobo GPThe race will allow players to race as famous Final Fantasy characters (and Chocobo spinoffs), such as a Chocobo inline skating, Cid and Terra Branford, Vivi and Steiner. They can also summon Shiva, Titan and Gilgamesh. Racers will use Magicite — famous Final Fantasy spells like Aero, Blizzard, Fire, and Thunder — to battle opponents in races that, yes, sure do look a lot like Mario Kart. Chocobo GPThe tournament will include a time-attack mode, custom races and a contest format for 64 players.

Final Fantasy lovers who are kart-curious can get the experience free of charge. Chocobo GP LiteA free download version of the game is available at Chocobo GP’s story mode prologue and access to local and online multiplayer races — that is, if they’re playing with a friend who has the full version of the game. Square Enix’s Chocobo kart racing series kicked off with Chocobo RacingFor the original PlayStation, 1999. There was also a Nintendo 3DS sequel, which was cancelled. The result is a 20 year gap between these two entries.
