Final Fantasy 14 TTRPG set for release in May 2024

This massively multi-player online game is a hit Final Fantasy 14It will officially be adapted as a tabletop RPG.

Square Enix announced that the Square Enix would be introducing the Final Fantasy TTRPG with a starter set, and it’s already available for pre-order, with release set for May 2024. This costs $59.99.

This starter kit, aimed at beginners, includes four character sheets for warriors, white mages, dragoons and black mages, a strategy and rules guide, sixteen custom dice, a map of the encounter, character tokens and ability markers.

Square Enix also plans a full standard rulebook and what appears to be a more extensive game master guide with premade scenarios, but these are just listed as “coming soon” on the official site.

Tabletop game adaptations into video games are common. The reverse are less common, and I can’t think of any notable MMOs that have made the jump before, but it makes a lot of sense. The results will be very interesting. FF14’s The rules of Eorzea and the world it represents translate into a setting that is more flexible, player-driven.
