Far Cry Lead Leaves Ubisoft After 10 Years

After more than 10 years of service at Ubisoft, Dan Hay has made his exit from Far Cry. 

The following news is from Video Games Chronicle, which reports that Hay will officially be gone from the company behind Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and Tom Clancy’s The Division, tomorrow. Ubisoft said VGC that Hay has not revealed what’s next for him, though. 

“After more than 10 years at Ubisoft, Dan Hay has announced that he will be pursuing a new chapter in his professional life and he will be leaving on November 12,” Ubisoft said. “Dan has been the executive director of Far Cry and has developed an incredible multi-disciplined team to produce what has become one of the most popular games in Ubisoft’s history. 

We are certain that Dan will find the right path for him. Although Dan is not yet revealing his plans, we have no doubts. We are grateful to Dan for all his contributions throughout the years, and we wish him every success in the future.

Ubisoft has stated that the Far Cry Team will now be headed by Sandra Warren, a Montreal producer and director. According to VGCHay, who was the creative director for Far Cry 5 (where he was the most involved), was the Far Cry series’ producer. However, he was a producer for Far Cry 3, 4, Blood Dragon, Primal, and New Dawn. Tomorrow he will be leaving Far Cry as executive producer. 

It’s important to note that Ubisoft is currently reportedly undergoing an internal change in light of a report that revealed mistreatment at studios and an “unhappy” response with how leadership handled the game industry’s #MeToo movement in the Summer of 2020. There’s no indication that Hay’s departure is connected to that, however, and reports on conditions inside Ubisoft have not named Hay as a problematic executive within the company.
