Fae Farm looks like a chill, co-op spin on Stardew Valley

When maintaining a farm, even a virtual one, there’s no shortage of tasks. Role-playing farm sim game Fae FarmIt is possible to grow crops, mine and even decorate houses. This can all be overwhelming for some people. Fae FarmMultiplayer will be a key feature of the game. According to a hands-off preview, the game will feature a relaxing, friendly farming simulator that is more casual than the typical farm sim.

Fae FarmPhoenix Labs’ multiplayer cooperative game in which you create and explore Azoria, a fantasy land. The game’s cutesy cottagecore feel isn’t exactly characteristic for the studio — Phoenix Labs is best known for creating the monster-hunting game Dauntless — but the team brings its expertise in designing co-op experiences to a new genre. Fae Farm When it launches on Nintendo Switch, the system will be able to support four players playing either online or local.

Friends can “seamlessly” drop in and out of co-op. You can achieve this seamlessness by signing up for our newsletter. Fae Farm has features that will update your friends on any story progression that’s happened while they’re logged out, and another that lets any player be the host. Our preview host showed us many features, such as fishing and farming. Other players in the session were able to run around town without any problems, participating in fishing and other activities side-by-side.

Jumping into Azoria, you’ll see a colorful and bright world with an art style that fuses a 3D look with stylized graphics that look like brush strokes. It has a light and playful tone, which gives the world an air of magic. The fairies are shaped like Lego chibi characters with stubby, round features. We saw many animation and graphic flourishes as our guide explored the globe. Platforming would have a fun look thanks to the characters’ ability to jump, twist, and spin easily. We saw the fish get pulled in the water by large fish as the character fished.

There are some dungeons that players can complete but they seem to be very laid-back. Fae Farm product head Isaac Epp said during our preview that the team didn’t feel “a super strong desire to make this a Souls-like experience.” Each dungeon is designed to be beaten multiple times for the sake of collecting resources. While your character can unleash melee combo and magical attacks as well, most enemies are easily defeated with light button-mashing. A preview of the triple-fireball was shown that could easily take down all kinds monsters.

Each character is given three major power bars. They can manage their health, stamina, mana, as well as earning experience points. This will give you the ability to upgrade certain aspects of your character, such magic, or tool usage. The developer provided an example: if you want to get more stones from your pick-ax swing, the developer will show how it can be done. Your character will be upgraded and you’ll also have the ability to upgrade your tools to increase the amount of resources available. For example, you can upgrade an ax so it can cut down harder wood trees. But there is one other unique leveling system: As you decorate your homes —you are allowed to have multiple — you will be awarded “cozy points” which will then further upgrade your character and better prepare them for the dungeons.

It’s 2022, and games like Stardew ValleyAnd Minecraft have gotten many updates that have both increased the scope and number of activities you’re able to do in those games. These two examples now include many complex systems designed to appeal to the hardcore fan. The flip side to all of this is Fae FarmThis game seems to be casual and friendly, with the option to invite friends.
