Microsoft Flight SimulatorIt is a great pleasure to introduce new and fascinating landscapes to enhance the beauty of this simulator. Oceania, a region and continent that spans the Northern, Southern and Eastern Hemispheres and includes remote coral islands and long white-sand beaches. It also contains towering volcanic peaks, uninhabited interior rainforests and modern architecture in populated cities. Antarctica offers aviators a place of adventure and intrigue with endless vistas and glaciated terrain.
Microsoft Flight Simulator’s World Update XIII includes Polynesia (Hawaii and Easter Island), Melanesia (Fiji, New Caledonia, New Guinea, Indonesia’s West Papua, and the Solomon Islands), the Galapagos Islands and key regions of Antarctica, notably the Antarctic Peninsula. This update includes 13 different countries. 28 non-sovereign territoriesThe release is based on the latest aerial photographs, satellite imagery and digital elevation modelling data. This release was created using the most recent aerial photos, satellite images, and digital height modelling data. The heightfield for Hawaii has been updated and includes the city of Honolulu, which features dozens of hand-made buildings.
Orbx and our partners have also developed 150 Points of Interest (POIs), including:
- Easter Island: Four Moai series
- The Autograph Tower – the tallest building in Indonesia and the Southern Hemisphere
- The McMurdo Station and Scott Base are part of a series of Antarctic research stations
- Point Venus Lighthouse in Tahiti
Orbx also created over a dozen airports made by hand for release. Some of these will tempt adventurous STOL (short-take-off-and-landing) pilots to test their skills, including:
- The collection of highlands dirt airports in Papua New Guinea
- Easter Island’s Mataveri International Airport (SCIP)
- Hawaii’s Kona International Airport (PHKO)
