Exclusive Magic: The Gathering Streets Of New Capenna Preview Card

Magic: The Gathering’s next set will take players to New Capenna. It is home to five deadly but different crime families, led by demons. You can find out about each flavor in our preview last week. For our exclusive preview card provided by Wizards of the Coast, this Cabaretti reveler is handing out poisonous snakes to everyone at the party. Everyone has one of those friends; you know the one.

Venom Connoisseur is a 2/2 Human Druid for 1G at Uncommon that uses the ability word “Alliance.” Venom Connoisseur is granted deathtouch for each creature that enters the battlefield while you control it. All creatures that you control, if this ability is used twice in a turn, gain deathtouch up to the end of your turn. Artist created the stunning illustration for this card. Marta Nael brings this snake charmer to life.

Even with limited decks, it’s easy to trigger Venom Connoisseur two times to grant deathtouch to your whole team. You can also make some unexpected, destructive blocks if there are simple ways to get creatures off the battlefield during your opponent’s turn. According to the old saying, “It takes only two for everyone’s deathtouch to tango.”

I am now able to see 60 card-constructed formats. My thoughts immediately go to Kaldheim’s Fynn, Fangbearer. If your opponent is damaged, their deathtouch creatures will give them two poison counters. A player with 10 poison counters or more loses the game. To achieve the satisfying Infect win, you will need a lot of deathtouching creatures to build a deck around Fynn. Venom Connoisseur lowers the barriers to entry and allows for more color and utility. Utilizing cards that consistently and repeatedly create creatures like Scute Swarm, Join the Dance, Clarion Spirit, or the variety of cards that churn out Decayed Zombie tokens from Midnight Hunt will keep your side of the battlefield full and, more importantly, threatening lethal Infect damage at all times from your fleet of deathtouchers if Fynn is on the board.

This is just the beginning of Venom Coinnesseur’s capabilities. We’ll soon be able see it in action within a matter of weeks. Streets of New Capenna Prerelease will begin on April 22nd. The full set will be released on April 29th. The full set will also be digitally available at Magic: The Gathering Arena or Magic Online starting April 28.
