Everything New In Bayonetta 3: Exclusive Cover Story Breakdown

Bayonetta 3 retains the over-the-top spectacle of its predecessors, but Platinum Games isn’t resting on the series’ laurels. The game introduces several big additions, quite literally in some cases, to the game’s already winning formula, and you can check them out in this exclusive gameplay video.

Before we jump on what’s new, the core of Bayonetta 3’s combat remains the same, so veterans will find it easy to slip back into the fun dance of chaining combos, peppering foes with gunfire, unleashing torture attacks, and split-second dodging to trigger the time-slowing Witch Time effect. However, one of Bayonetta’s new tricks is Demon Masquerade. Weapons are now imbued with the power of Bayonetta’s many Infernal Demons. Madama Butterfly’s pistols are tied and Gomorrah gives power to the G-Pillar. Equipping these demonic arms alters Bayonetta’s combat style and also influences her Beast Within transformation. Gomorrah transforms Bayonetta, for example, into a bestial version capable of jumping long distances and shredding enemies to ribbons using her claws.

Demon Slave can be described as an evolution in Climax Summons. Your demonic partner can be summoned to give you complete control over them and to destroy your enemies. Madama Butterfly, a demonic partner with unique powers. She can send kisses that will charm your foes into joining you in battle. Bayonetta can be vulnerable to Demon Slave. The power drains your magic, so make sure you use it carefully. Demon Rampage allows you to control your demons and cause them to attack all and any of the people and things on the field.

Bayonetta 3 has more complex levels and new environmental puzzles. These obstacles are only possible by tapping into your demon powers. You can also do side activities like chasing your familiars to their Umbran tears and challenge rooms. The video shows one puzzle that involves going back in time and carefully arranging debris from fallen buildings to create jumping platforms. Bayonetta appears to be transformed into a younger version.

Platinum has also changed Bayonetta 3’s progress. Embryos, fragments dropped by slain Homonguili, serve as the game’s new primary currency. These can be spent at the Gates of Hell in order to obtain consumables and accessories as well as upgrade items. Although Halos remain, they are now an uncommon prize which unlocks secrets rewards. You’ll also earn Orbs, used to unlock abilities in the game’s new skill trees.
