Epic Games Store shuts off online games including Rock Band, Unreal

Epic Games announced Wednesday that it’s shutting off “out-of-date online services and servers” for older games. Online servers will be shut down for the first three Rock Band titles on January 24, along with servers. RealisticGold, Unreal Tournament 3There are many more. Epic Games said it’s looking to “solely support Epic Online Services with its unified friends system, voice chat features, parental controls, and parental verification features.”

The majority of the games included in Wednesday’s list will be available to play offline, Epic Games said — but not all of them. Here’s the list of games that are going offline on Jan. 24, but will still be available without the internet:

• 1000 Tiny Claws
• Dance Central 1-3 (Dance Central VROnline access will continue to be available.
• Green Day Rock Band
• Monsters probably stole my princess
• Rock Band 1–3 (Rock Band 4Online access will continue to be available.
• Rock Band: The Beatles
• Supersonic Rocket-Powered BattleAutos
• Real Gold
• Unreal 2: The Awakening
• Real Tournament 2003
• Unreal Tournament 2004
• Unreal Tournament 3
• Unreal Tournament: Edition Game of the Year

Epic Games will be taking these games off its website. This means that players won’t have the ability to buy or download any DLC. They will also be removed along with the other titles. Hatoful Boyfriend Holiday Star: Hatoful Boyfriend are no longer available for Mac and Linux — but people who already own the game can still play.

Epic Games plans to return online features Unreal Tournament 3, and the game’s Steam page now lists a “completely free” version of the game that “supports crossplay between all PC players, whether they’re logged into their Steam, Epic Games Store or GOG accounts.” Epic promises “No microtransactions and no strings attached,” for the game it’s calling Unreal TournamentX.

On Dec. 30, Epic Games said it’s shutting down 2019’s BattlebreakersThe game is no longer playable. Epic will issue a refund to players that made payments via Epic 180 days before Wednesday. Many of these old games can be found in the Internet. Real GoldThe film was first released in 1998. However, there are others such as BattlebreakersThey are also more recent. Unreal franchise games have been shut down. They are very popular alongside Rock Band. Both franchises have sold millions, though the numbers of players for certain older games may be quite small.
