Epic Games Chief Creative Officer, Fortnite Head Donald Mustard Retiring

Donald Mustard has retired as the Chief Creative Officer of Epic Games after 7 years. On Twitter, Mustard announced that he was retiring after nearly 25 years in the gaming industry to spend more time with his family. 

Mustard is most notable for his role as Fortnite’s head, in charge of the creative and storytelling decisions behind the battle royale game. Epic Games did not announce the successor to Mustard, nor what Fortnite’s future will look like. However, thousands of employees are still working there and the business will continue.

This month, after an amazing adventure I’ll be retiring as Chief creative officer at Epic.  

It has been a pleasure to work with so many talented individuals over the past 25 years. I’m proud of everything we created together. Each new chapter has allowed me to achieve something original and new. From Advent Rising to ChAIR, where we developed Undertow and Shadow Complex and the Infinity Blade Trilogy, I have been able to create new things. I am especially proud of the opportunity I’ve had to help create and shape Fortnite.

I am humbled to have been a part of the team that every day tries to bring ‘joy and delight’ to the Fortnite community! You are amazing! We enjoy watching your every move – jumping from the Battle Bus the first time or seeing the rocket explode in the sky. Dancing with friends, after winning a Victory Royale. Being sucked into the black hole, getting washed away to sea when The Island flips over. I can’t wait to now share in the future of Fortnite as a player alongside all of you! Teams are under the most capable hands. They’re working on jaw-dropping, incredible things!!
