We talk with Director of Operations at Ebb Software Miroslav Mićević to learn more about what to expect when we take our first steps in Scorn.


Game Pass Members on Xbox Series X|S and Windows can enter the surreal and nightmarish world of Scorn. Its unnerving environment, mysterious world and terrifying creations are all part of its charm. Scorn This game was both one of our favorite to play and one of the most mysterious. It is a shooter. Do I require a blanket of security?

Before diving into its intriguing world — and to answer some of our most burning questions — we had a chance to talk with Director of Operations at Ebb Software Miroslav Mićević to learn more about what to expect when we first set foot in the game, some of the inspirations behind its incredible art design, and what was it like to create a soundtrack for something that’s so… slimy.


We appreciate you taking time to speak with us about the game that was just released. Scorn. To kick things off, can you tell us more about the inspiration behind the creation of the game’s world?

Many thanks for having me as a guest. ScornWith you. ScornIt is inspired by literature, art, philosophy and movies. We could say that the roots lie in existentialist philosophy, the artwork of H. R. Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński, movies of Cronenberg, Lynch, and the like. All these could be considered as influential on the creative process. Scorn’s Game Director Ljubomir Peklar.

Scorn has been described as an “atmospheric first-person horror adventure.” Would you say that puts in the same vein as others in the genre like Dear Esther And Go Home? These games or other inspirations were behind the creation Scorn?

Maybe a better description would be a “surreal nightmare adventure.” It’s hard to find direct references among video games, but it is like you are in a gallery observing a dark surrealist painting. Imagine yourself stepping into the painting and creating a living environment. That’s basically what Scorn is.

H.R. Giger (“Alien”) were inspired by the look of the game — and it looks incredible from everything we’ve seen. You collaborated with other artists in the art form to create this new world. ScornTo life? How difficult was it to recreate this artform in an environment design?

We are very grateful. Each asset was hand-crafted, which made it difficult. Most of the time you don’t use that method when creating video games. However, ScornYou said that a sculptor is one way to reproduce an artistic work. All of the sculptors involved were engaged in meticulous reconstruction of this horrible scene. It was not an easy task.

What is the secret to making the key points of interest stand out in muted colors?

Lighting. Sound. Music. The game is meant to charm and inspire players. It was an amazing job by the lighting crew to enhance the experience and provide guidance to those stuck in Scorn.

Other than H.R. Are there other bodies horror masters the development team admires, aside from H.R. What fears have you brought to the team’s attention? Scorn?

In general, it’s a fear that you might be a human. Let’s say Cronenberg’s “The Fly,” Lynch’s “Eraserhead,” or even Kafka’s “Metamorphosis.”

Beyond the visuals, which are incredibly striking, can you talk about the game’s audio design? What was it like to create sound for something that’s so… slimy? Which objects were you able to use as reference points?

The sound engineers are an eccentric bunch. There were many epic sessions that involved destruction of various things. Vegetables, wood, bark, cardboard, chairs, pipes, meat, stones. It’s likely that they recorded or obliterated it.

You can also speak to us about how the music was chosen for the game. To find the right soundtrack for this game, what was the process?

That was a very fortunate outcome. Lustmord is a genius composer of dark ambient music and found out about our game. He reached out to us. He was aware ScornHis creation was an ideal fit. The rest is history. Aethek was another outstanding composer who had the same feelings. Scorn lures people to itself, you can’t resist the inner urge.

Scorn is a first-person, atmospheric horror game that takes place in an eerie universe with strange forms and somber tapestry.

This book is based on the concept of being “thrown into the universe”. This dream-like setting will allow you to wander in isolation and be lost. This unsettling setting is an entire character.

Every area has its own unique theme, characters and puzzles that help to create a world. The game will allow you to explore new locations, gain different skill levels, weaponry, and various items as well as help you to grasp the surroundings.


GAMEPLAY FEATURES

Cohesive “lived-in” world
Scorn occurs in an open world, with many connected regions. The maze-like structures of each region contain many different rooms and pathways to explore. All the storytelling happens in-game, with no cut-scenes to distract you from the grisly reality of the living, breathing world you’re in. But keep your eyes open – the game won’t show you any sympathy if you miss something important on your uneasy travels.

Awareness of the whole body
Players will experience better immersion being aware of the character’s body and movement. Interaction with the world is realistic – objects are picked up with your hands (instead of just floating in midair), machines and instruments are operated by grabbing the controls, etc.

Management of inventory and ammo
You should have a defined loadout. It plays an important role in keeping you in a greater level of consciousness throughout the game. It will be up to the players to decide when to defend themselves and where to go for cover. They also need to reflect on how their actions impact the world. You will need to use different play styles in order to progress.
