Embark Studios Adds PvP To Arc Raiders

Embark Studios is changing the scope of Arc Raiders. The original announcement for the 2021 game described it as a PvE co-op experience that involved working together against alien machines. Now, the game will have a PvP element thrown into the mix.

In an update, Embark reveals that since delaying Arc Raiders to focus on finishing its other upcoming title, The Finals, it’s added competitive play as well as an extraction element. It still takes place on an Earth in the far future, which has been ravaged with sentient machines. However, now players must also compete against each other and their opponents. As part of the new extraction-based missions, players are required to collect and locate resources across the planet for their squad. Here’s Embark’s pitch for what Arc Raiders now entails:

The people have fled underground to Speranza in search of supplies and protection from the machines. Resources are in high demand. But getting those resources is a risky job, and it isn’t for everyone.

It is your job.

That’s why you’ve enlisted as a Raider, scavenging for vital supplies that are scattered across the landscape. Everything from leftovers from yesterday’s run-in with ARC to the unlikely remains of a pinball machine.

You will need to be prepared for a fight if you want your treasure. Surfaces are dotted with lethal ARC machines. There are no rules to Calabretta so watch out for other Raiders.

Trust is earned and lost easily with the traders of Speranza. It’s important to work hard. So don’t come back from a quest empty-handed.

Embark will launch a closed beta test to give players the opportunity to experience Arc Raiders first-hand. The game still has no release date, but it’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
